"Maya The Bee: Garden Adventure" is a video game released for the Gameboy Color console in 2000 by Acclaim. It is based on the popular German character of the same name. I could not immediately find an age rating but would see this as suitable for all ages.

The story of this game involves when Maya's friend "Willie" is taken away by a family of wasps. It is the player's objective to guide Maya throughout the setting and retrieve Willie by using a series of clues. The game is presented from a top down perspective with Maya navigating throughout a large land to find clues and other traces to be lead to Willie. There is little difficulty in this title. It is simply a matter of following clues to Willie's eventual discovery and release. There are numerous allies which can be spoken to throughout the journey should the player get lost. The controls are very simple with the directional arrows guiding where Maya is to move and both "A" and "B" executing the same action key, such as interacting with other characters.

The graphics of this game are reasonable and make a good attempt at visual presentation. I find the display to be filled with colour at all times and the character detailing to be of a higher standard. There is a clear attention to finer detailing as Maya's facial features are all visible and clear in implementation. I did not find the sound to be particularly noteworthy in this title but there were acceptable features throughout including great musical scores.

Overall, Maya The Bee may appeal to a younger child due to its extreme simplicity in play but would not likely be appealing for extended periods of time. It is a very easy game to complete and would likely not be played after one game finish.

Summary: Thumbs down
