"Mickey's Racing Adventure" is a video game released for the Gameboy Color console in 1999 by Nintendo. It features many popular characters from the well known Walt Disney franchise. In the United States, the game received a rating of "E" by the ESRB panel which deemed it suitable for all ages.

This game is of the racing genre and features go-karts. Before each game the player is able to choose from popular Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy. There is a strong element of acquiring "Disney Dollars" through better performance in game as these dollars can be brought to an in-game garage to service the player's go-kart. The kart can be upgraded with various parts which enables a higher top speed or faster acceleration amongst other distinctions. These dollars can also be used to purchase power-ups to use against opponents to slow down their progress in the form of magic spells. I didn't find the game to be particularly difficult but there are some areas in the game with tighter corners to turn, and this is done through releasing the acceleration button and lightly tapping the appropriate direction key.

The game is viewed from an isometric perspective which allows for clear view of the player and his or her environment. I didn't find the detailing of this title to be particularly good and struggled to differentiate between the characters. The only obvious cue is different kart colours but the physical characters of the beings are not all that obvious. The audio is of an acceptable standard and features typical "buzzing" sounds to denote acceleration and other engine noise.

Mickey's Racing Adventure is an acceptable racing game which could fit in well with a player's collection. I much preferred the later "Mickey's Speedway USA" release and would likely opt for that title over this if given the choice.

Summary: Thumbs in the middle
