Advantages: Better technology (I'm told); better gaming

Disadvantages: Well what a waste of money that GB Colour turned out to be!!

So what's this ADVANCE thing then? The short answer is the next step in your Gameboy's evolution.

Of course it's got the colour screen (so don't waste money upgrading if you haven't got one of those yet) but the most obvious difference is the shape. It's as if your GB has been turned on its side and rounded off - much more comfortable for holding in your hands for hours. And the main controls remain unchanged, but there are extra buttons to control addtional game functions.

Other trivia : the colour screen is bigger with better resolution than a colour GB. The 32 bit processor is more whizzy (non techie me) and so displays 32,000 colours. Imagine!! Naturally it will have the required designer accessory - a link cable which will allow 4 players to game at once. And you will also be able to play with other enthusiasts using an Infrared Communication Adapter. It will link to the Nintendo Gamecube - there is no end to its talents! All you will need for 15 hours of wall to wall fun is 2 x AA batteries. Finally, although the main body of the GB ADVANCE is silver the buttons and back do appear to come in different colours - for the fashion conscious child.

Looks like all the tried and trusted favourite games will be available too.

And when may we expect this miracle? Well March 2001 in Japan costing 9,800 yen if you have it in your wallet. That's roughly £60. Possible release here next summer.

So there you have it - kids with summer birthdays are sorted; my son however doesn't have his birthday till the end of November...
