Advantages: Great gameplay, multiplayer functions, good replay value

Disadvantages: Poor graphics, Single colour play

The classic Pokémon game boy games. For their times these games had a great market. With its good learning curve for beginner players with simple game play and combat system all ages can enjoy the game at different levels. a Pokémon is a creature which is actually short for "Pocket Monster"

To begin with when you start you are a 10 year old boy ready to begin his Pokémon adventure. The goal? Catch all 151 Pokémon and become a Pokémon master! The game is competitive, addictive and enjoyable with its range of single player, multiplayer sections which also includes functions to trade Pokémon with friends and battle it out! The fights work in a systematic turn based combat which is determined on your Pokémon's stats. The Pokémon catching system is very attractive as you must first find a Pokémon in the wild you wish to capture, using your own Pokémon you must fight and weaken it down without beating it, when its HP (Hit points) are low enough you use an item called a poke ball to throw and attempt to capture the injured enemy Pokémon. The ball seals shut and rolls around in an attempt to keep the Pokémon inside. If it is weakened enough they will be unable to get out and be yours to keep!

The implemented combat system was quite unique for its time and many games of today are thankful for this generation developing title. Available in two versions named "Pokémon Red" and "Pokémon Blue", they both offer very different playing styles as each version has different Pokémon sets on while having one version alone it is not possible to capture and collect all 151 Pokémon as all kinds are split between the two versions which is where the trade function comes to light.

Some downsides however are that the graphics and colours are lacking. Depending on your version of game for example if you have Pokémon blue, all the colours in game are blue which may become frustrating. Apart from this however the game works perfectly and is truly a classic. A must get for poke fans or just general fun seekers.

Summary: Great game for its time, worth playing!
