Advantages: good first time round, Good 2 player

Disadvantages: Dull, Bad Graphics, Poor gameplay

I think that Pokemon is a very good game, although it is getting a bit old now. I have got all 151 pokemon, the last 5 were very hard to get.

I think that it is averagely good, despite the fact that this game is STILL umong the top 5 charts, for 1, 2, 3.... etc. years. It's a fact that there's never not been a pokemon game in the top 5 since the first one came out. Rediculously successful. I must admit, I can't figure out how such a poor RPG (come on, compare it to Final Fantasy VII) can be so addictive. The graphics are poor, but that's Game Boy for you; there is hardly any gameplay (isn't too far off Pokemon Stadium, but you can move about), like it is possible at any time to leave the game boy alone and nothing will ever happen. Also, it lasts a long time, IF you go for the 151 pokemon.

Unfortunately, there is no storyline at all, neither does the series 1 cartoon of what it is based on. Johto does have more of a storyline (GS ball, Ash finding out his dad being Giovanni etc) so it really, doesn't make it an RPG in any way at all. I don't know. The gae really does get dull after completeing it through about 15 times like I have, as if it wasn't dull in the first place.

You probably know, but the whole idea of pokemon is to be a pokemon master. Two ways: Complete the Pokemon League, in which you have to beat the Elite Four, who are Lorelei, Bruno, Agatha and Lance. In succession to this, you must defeat Gary. Although not much of a challenge (especially with a Mewtwo), there is another way to be a pokemon master – collect all of them. Very hard indeed. You must trade with your mates, search for years upon end for a Kangeskahn and Tauros in the correct section of the safari zone, and so on. Otherwise, good; good.

One question remains otherwise: why is it so successful?

I think Pokémon's good, but Nintendo have been cashing in too much. Three films, loads of GB and N64 games, a load of trading cards and a variety of soft toys later (not to forget the windup walking Pikachu), it is most definitely time for the Big N to move on.

Pokemon is not popular because it is easy/hard/playable. I know this for a fact. dav

Hmmm. A really good opinion, but in my view, 'gotta avoid 'em all!' Not really into Pokemon.
