Advantages: great gamneply, oringinality and just a great game
Disadvantages: sounds and graphics
I have to say that when I heard about the pokemon phase that was sweeping across Japan and American, I thought that it would not catch on over here. Everyone, no matter of age had seen or played the game or the programme. I thought to myself NO I will not get caught up in such a stupid phase. And obviously I did! I could not get enough of the programme, even at my age! And then I saw my chance to get the game. I found a very reasonable price for a Gameboy Colour and one of the games. I had to buy it. I started plying and with my extensive knowledge of the world of pokemon, I was off. The game follows the same story as the cartoon; well actually it is the cartoon that follows the same story as the game. You play as a character that you give a name, but the real name is either Ash or Gary. You start at the small town of Pallet town, and the local brain=box professor oak wants to see you. When you get there he tells you to choose one of three pokemon, which pokemon you chose determines the level of difficulty at the start of the game. But as you get further involved and your pokemon gets stronger it doesn’t really matter. There are really 2 main aims of this game: First, travel round the world and defeat the pokemon gym leaders there, and collect the badge to prove you have defeated them. Then go on to the pokemon league and defeat the Elite four, they are the best pokemon trainers in the world. Defeat them and pokemon the pokemon master of thee world. Secondly, collect all 150 little creatures, now that might seem easily and believe me at the start of the game it is. But as you get further in it becomes increasingly difficult to capture them. And the added annoyance that the only way to get all 150 is trade pokemon with a friend that has the other colour game. As on red version there are pokemon that are not on the blue version, and on the blue version there are pokemon that are not on red version. A
lso if you are anything like me that last 5 pokemon will be very hard to get your hands on. This game seems pathetic when you first play. With graphics that are average even for the gameboy and about 5 sound effects through the whole game. But unlike many other games, it is not this that makes it great; it is the gameplay of the game. It is outstanding, and the originality of the game. This game will keep you playing for ages. And you will probably find once you have completed it (not an easy task) you will just think...I could completed it faster next time or I wonder what would happen if I chose a different pokemon at the start, and then off you go again. Oh yeh, and it is very fun going around kicking the cr*p out of little helpless creatures. This game might seem stupid, but try it you will love it.
