Making up this cartridge are the original Game Boy R-Type and R-Type II games, their new colour versions, and R-Type DX - the two enhanced games played back-to-back. The R-Type games do not place much emphasis on it's story - only the original version of R-Type II here sets itself in some sort of context. Still, those with a Game Boy Color (or equivalent) would be forgiven for overlooking the originals, especially when they appear to exhibit similar faults with their enhanced versions (which I picked to play). R-Type is a brilliant slice of retro shoot em up action. There are essentially 5 games on the pak, R-Type and R-Type 2 in the original black and white, the same games specially coloured, and R-Type DX which combines the 2 games into a seamless alien blast fest. You have to fight against an armada of vicious aliens from the Bydo empire, piloting just one little ship. But - you get some wicked power ups to help you on your way. R-Type is a side-scrolling shooter, with waves of aliens coming at you, and you need quick reflexes and a quicker thumb to survive!
