This game is an update of the 1985 Super Mario Bros for the NES and was released in Europe in August 2001, which was a year and two months after the American release! It's basically the same as the original but with a few differences such as less levels, and there's also a challenge mode which allows you to go through the original levels to find items and get beat high scores. It's an old classic revived for the Gameboy Color that's still just as enjoyable as when it was released. I remember playing this on my friends Gameboy back when I really wanted my own console but didn't get one until about four years ago. It was one of my favourite games at the time and ... Hmmm, Super Mario Brothers? Deluxe? What? Isn't that that stupid 1985 game created by Shigeru Miyamoto that was released for the Famicom (A Japanese NES)? Wow, it's that game that started it all, that damn game that got me to lose my entire social life during the early 90's. To be honest, I should burn this "deluxe" cart and throw it hard to the ground and continously stamp on it until my rage is over, but instead, there was this urge to play it... Possibly it was the fact that I remembered playing it when I was 5-6 - remembering the first ever level and how fun it was to just fly past the level without getting into contact with the goombas ... Mario Brothers DX is another fine DX remake from Nintendo, even better than the Zelda remake (I'm only talking about the extras, not the actual games). Not only is there the pixel-perfect original Mario game available, but they've thrown in a load of other features as well. The original was a classic, and it plays just as well on the Game Boy. There are more than enough buttons, plus two view modes - both of which are adequate for the Game Boy's tiny screen. But it's the extras that really let the game shine. There's VS Mode, which allows you to race a friend (using the link cable) through a level. Blocks are added that change the ... Read the complete review

This classic game has gone under some major changes. The graphics have been improved and with the added colour it makes you feel like your playing on the SNES. Nintendo have done well to transform this game from the old black and white screen to the many colours now available. Anybody who has a Colour GameBoy I would recommend this game and you should get it, as it will probably become a collectors item in a few years as the GameBoy Advance comes out to dominate the handheld console market. The game itself is different to the original one and the characters haven’t really changed that much. The character you have on screen is easy to control and is practically ... First off I’ll make an admission; I’ve never been a big fun of the Mario Bros games. Very occasionally there comes along a platform game that grabs my attention, but none of the Mario Bros games ever have. (Neither did Sonic, btw – Rainbow Islands and The New Zealand Story are the only 2 that immediately spring to mind that I liked.) There reason I’m telling you this is because it will undoubtedly affect my rating for this game – if you’re already a fan, you’ll probably like it a whole lot more than me. Though this game is for the Game Boy Colour I’ve played it only on the Game Boy Advance, though of course there is no difference to the game play, nor indeed ... Read the complete review
