The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening is the forth installment from the Zelda series, and it marks the first installment for the handheld console. Link's Awakening follows the hero Link stranded on Koholint Island. Whilst most of the Zelda games are set in the fictional world of Hyrule, with the enemy Ganon making a regular appearance, Link's Awakening scraps both of these in favour of a different fictional world. Koholint Island is watched over by a magnificent whale-like creature named the Wind Fish. Link soon realises that if the Wind Fish is awoken, he is able to escape Koholint Island. The Wind Fish can only be awaken by the playing of a combination of ... Read the complete review

This was one of the first games I got for my Gameboy Colour and as such I'm reviewing the DX version which supported the GBC. This is a classic Japanese RPG. Viewed from a top down perspective you control link as he is stranded on an island. Your character slowly discovers what he is doing there by searching the world and defeating a series of dungeons. As such it follows a standard RPG convention of exploring a world and defeating increasingly tough bosses and their dungeons. By so doing you collect the items needed to solve the problems on the island and find your way home. Graphically the colour version is very good (for a Gameboy), unfortunately as ever ... *A review of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX.* Zelda: Link's Awakening is the first title from the series for an handheld, and was not without additions of it's own. There are the likes of the leaf item, which allows Link to jump, and putting this to good use are the brief sidescrolling sections, where the appearance of enemies from the Super Mario Bros. games is a pleasant surprise. The island of Koholint is by no means a small one. Some of the residents say strange things - though that way the player learns the controls - there is plenty to explore and, with the help of an owl and old man Ulrira (give him a call from the phone booths) ... This is quite literally my favourite game of all time, despite the fact that I played it on the Original Gameboy is green and white, and was many years ago when I first played through it. This is a fairly challenging game, unlike a lot of new games which you'll find you can complete in a matter of hours, some parts seemed impossible at the time, but by not using a guide and sticking at it when you get to finally awakening the Wind Fish make it all worth it at the end. The ending sequence is perhaps my favourite ending, that may be because it just took so long to complete it though I'm not sure, but it's better than any fancy graphics on Playstations ... yes the game is 10 years old but age doesnt matter granted i've only played the mono version of link's awakening so i cant say anything about the special extras for gameboy color owners. The game begins with you(Link) being washed on the shores of Koholint island. you soon discover that the entire island has been overridden with monsters, and that the only way to rid the island of them is to wake the windfish who is sleeping in an egg at the top of Mount Tamaranch. Can Link wake the wind fish in time to save the island? only you know! You must guid Link through nine dungeons(it may not sound like a lot but it will take a while to get ...
