Turok 2 was a great licence on the Nintendo 64 platformand well, I suppose it would have been a little too optimistic to have expected more of the same when it came to the Gameboy, but you do expect a hlaf decent game. You don't get one here, but instead another lame atempt to cash in on the success of another licence on a much better platform. I hate it when game manufactures do this, but thankfully the internet allows you to hunt out a rom and try before you buy...

Turok 2 puts our dinosaur hunting friend on a variety of different levels facing all manner of beasties. well ok, a couple of different types of beasties across 8 rather large but ultimately dull levels - who cares how big they are when they gameplay is this weak! The idea is that dinosaurs are trying to reclaim the Earth, and you as Josh Fireseed, Dinosaur Hunter(!) are the only one who can stand in their way. You start roaming the sideways scrolling street, barefooted for some unknown reason armed only with your fists - not a very well prepared dinosaur hunter then obviously. Some of the people you encounter are Dinosoids and wil charge you...so just step down to the other side of the street and they'll leave you alone. You could of course punch them, which stops them in their tracks just long enough for you to punch them again, and then they get you...pointless. You can walk, you can jump and you can punch, although nothing happens when you do, until you find a discarded dinosuar hunting pack(!) and then you can start kicking some butt. Of course what you are actually looking for is the portal to the other world which just happens to be sitting in the middle of the street which is when the game really begins.

Does the Gameboy need yet another sideways scrolling 2D beat em up? I doubt it. Yes you get a variety of different weapons to play with, all of which have their own preset conditions for use and are more effective against the different types of dinosaur you are going t
o encounter. You will come across flying dinosuars, walking slithering, gun carrying - the works and get things like , pistols, rifles, bow and arrows to use against them. You even get to ride a dinosaur occassionally. It should be so much more fun but it isn't and the initial level is so damn boring that you'll be hard pressed to get through this and onto the later more interesting ones. I would like to give this a 2/5 rating but I think that may be a little too harsh so I am opting for a more generous 3/5. I suppose such things as the control method, graphics, sound and the like are passable, so anything below that would be a little too harsh. Its a rather average Gameboy game, and average isn't worth shelling out £20 for as far as I am concerned. But, its up to you I suppose - just don't expect it to be ANYTHING like the N64 game.

Not played any of the Turok games and this doesn't sound a good one to start with.
