"Turok Rage Wars" is a video game released to the Gameboy Color console in 1999 by Acclaim. It is a part of a long standing video game series known as "Turok", and is the third installment for the Gameboy console. It received a rating of "E" by the ESRB rating panel in the United States which deemed it suitable for all ages.

Gameplay is improved remarkably over former titles for the Gameboy console. Rage Wars implements a greater sense of character control using the arrow keys but does show some obvious fault in the jump function, executed by pressing the "A" button. The "jump" appears to be a minor jolt in the character's positioning and does not accurately reflect what one would perceive to be a typical jump in video games. The game itself is a typical survival title where the sole objective is to eliminate all enemies and remain alive, though Rage Wars does add some creative levels such as one where the player must guide Turok on a small river boat and avoid enemy contact throughout the process. It is these sorts of implements which were missing in the first two titles of "Turok" but were added successfully to this title, making for enjoying and entertaining play. In terms of difficulty there is little experienced throughout playing of this game, but there is some minor learning curve at the beginning when learning how to use the stock weapon provided to Turok. It is a small hunting knife and, despite its small size, it is often the most useful weapon and deals the most lethal strikes in comparison to other more powerful ranged weapons which require multiple "shots".

Graphics have been improved considerably over former titles. As Rage Wars was an exclusive "Gameboy Color" release the developers were able to make use of a more powerful technology to its fullest extent. The background is very vibrant and well coloured, and there is a wide host of various environmental features such as tall grass and marshland which was very well detailed. The sound, however, I find to be a sort of regression on former titles and come across as very "screechy" and poorly inserted throughout the game.

Rage Wars may appeal to a younger player as it offers little difficulty and can be completed with relative ease. I found some concepts of the levels to be a fun play but this appeal quickly wore off and it's likely that an average player would be satisfied with one "go around".

Summary: Thumbs in the middle
