Advantages: Fun, interesting characters, lots of collectibles

Disadvantages: Time consuming, the town goes on even if you don't play so you have to waste time pulling weeds etc.

An Animal Crossing game was actually released on the Nintendo 64 in Japan but it never made it to the rest of the world. So this is the technically the first proper game in the series. This is a unique game due to the fact that it relies on the Gamecube's inner clock, this means that if you play at night then in the game it will be night as well but this only works if you have your clock set right. It also relies on the date so if you play in the autumn all the leaves will change colour also if you play on specific dates i.e. your birthday (which you input at the start) then the residents give you presents.

Another reason why this game is different is that it can never be completed there are no objectives to complete. That be said you don't just wander about doing nothing, you can maintain the town, talk and help the residents, pay off your debts, capture fish, bugs, find fossils and loads more. This game is meant to keep you playing because if you don't play for a while then there are weeds everywhere and the residents get angry, some may even move away.

The basic storyline is that you have moved out of your parents' house and are moving to a new town. On the train a fellow passenger a cat (all the residents are animals but you are the only human character) and he asks you your details which is a lot more interesting than just filling it out on a menu screen. When the train arrives you get to choose your house from the four that the racoon shop keeper Tom Nook has. The problem is that you don't have any bells which are the native currency so you are forced to work with him to pay off some of your debt. When you pay off the rest then you can ask for an extension but then you will need to pay it off as well, you can also buy stuff like wall paper, carpet, furniture and other items. This is a very unique game and it is certainly interesting. But it is very time consuming and you feel the need to talk to everyone in the town every time you play plus there are so many fish and insects and other things to collect. There are two other games now one on the DS and one on the Wii but if you have a Gamecube then you might as well get this as they are basically all the same.

Summary: A fun game which can be played for hours

I agree that the idea of a persistent world is probably more appealing than the world itself in computer games!
