Advantages: Gripping story, updated graphics, excitement all around

Disadvantages: story driven games might not appeal to everyone

BACKGROUND - Spoiler free

As you may have gathered, the Twin snakes is the retelling of the original MGS on the PS1, exclusively for the Nintendo Gamecube. This series of games first started on the Nintendo NES, and it is refreshing to see it back on a Nintendo console.

MGS follows the life of a soldier ' Solid Snake' which is a gripping storyline with extravagant twists and turns in the plot. Being heavily story driven, expect plenty of cut scenes. However the gameplay itself is stealth / action with some violence (in an artistic manner).

THE GAME

As the twin snakes is a remake of the famous original, expect improved graphics and gameplay which is true.

The graphics have been updated to a point where it serves its purpose of illustrating the producers vision of the game.

The gameplay itself has been updated to include a first person view and extras that are present in MGS2 for e.g. Snake can hng from ledges, collect dog tags etc..

The cutscenes themselves have been changed and are longer. They are now full of action which some may find OTT, but in my opinion it adds to the excitement and is believable, as that is how a 'young' snake would move and deal with a situation.

However one minor minus is the exclusion of some of the original music.

In conclusion, the Twin Snakes is a beautifully done remake of an unforgettable original. Die hard fanboys for the PS may cry foul, but they miss the vision of producer Kojima.

As it stands, it is one of the best games on the Gamecube. Throw in a gripping story, beautiful graphics, exciting boss battles, and you have one heck of a game!

You will be hard pressed to find this nowdays, due to its cult status.

Highly Recommended 9/10

On a personal note, I find MGS1 / twin snakes to be the best game in the series.

Summary: Beautiful update to a timeless classic = Timeless game
