Advantages: Great ship combat, decent vehicle combat, good graphics

Disadvantages: On foot missions are very poor.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron Rebel Strike is an action game for the Nintendo Gamecube developed by Lucasarts.

This game follows the story of the previous game after the distruction of the Death Star, you will get to resume your roles as both the ace Rebel pilot Wedge Antilles and the young Jedi in training Luke Skywalker as they continue to fight the Empire eventually to their defeat as they destroy the Death Star II! Like the previous title this has many moments which will have Star Wars fans very excited!

As before you can choose from a wide range of Star Wars ships to fly including the X Wing fighter ship, the Y Wing bomber, A Wing, Experimental Tie Fighter. Each ship has its own different combat capabilities so you will have a good excuse to get into each and every one on the games different flying missions.

The combat is still excellent, with the nippier ships able to perform tighter turns so you can keep on the back of that Tie fighter and destroy it with your blaster cannons. The bombers while they have slower blasters and are not as suitable to dogfight in are excellent when you can use their proton bombs to take out a shield generator or enemy target.

You also get to view the ships in either a first person cockpit mode so you can feel more like the pilot of the ship or you can give yourself a third person viewpoint which gives you a wider view of the action, both are perfectly usable its just down to which you prefer. You can also give some basic orders to your squadron, and they will either form up on your wing and protect you or you can send them out to engage the enemy.

You do get to pilot some ground vehicles now like the Snowspeeder, the Imperial AT AT giant walker and the AT ST light walker, these moments are actually pretty fun as you zip around on your Snow speeder or cause some major destruction with the AT ST.

This game notably adds in a very major addition, you can now leave your fighter and run around on foot. The only problem with this is they have got the feel entirely wrong, fighting your way through enemies is a pain as you have no control over what the game will target which can result in some frustrating situations. The missions involving Lukes instruction in the force may seem like an amazing idea at first but when you end up falling down pits and with the disappointing lightsaber moments you will soon be brought back down to earth.

Graphics as before are of excellent quality with detailed ships and even the on foot missions animate very smoothly and are detailed.

Rogue Squadron Rebel Strike must be commended for trying to do more than its predecessor but sadly it doesn't do it too well, while not as impressive as Rogue Leader it is still a must play for any Star Wars fan.

Summary: A good Star Wars action game.
