Advantages: Superb graphics and multiplayer gameplay

Disadvantages: None

Super Smash Bros. Melee is a superb game that's a remake of the original Super Smash Bros. game on the Nintendo 64. Like the previous game, it takes characters from Nintendo's most famous gaming franchises, such as The Legend of Zelda and Mario, and pits them against each other in arena-based combat, where the goal is to use the environment, your own special abilities, and the weapons on the map to send the other players flying into oblivion.

As per the previous game, you have a percentage bar that begins at 0% and climbs up as you are dealt damage. Once you get past 100%, it doesn't take very much for you to get killed, and if you manage to make it past 150%, you must have very good evasive skills! Upon being smashed off of the map, you'll see an animation in the background of your character skyrocketing away in rather hilarious fashion.

Although it's enjoyable enough as a single player experience, there's really nothing quite like the multiplayer offering - it is extremely satisfying to play with three friends, with a pack of beers each, as you attempt to, as...Pikachu...beat the living daylights out of...Luigi. It's a very unconventional type of game for Nintendo, and particularly for most of the characters in the game, but it is precisely for this reason that it works so well - the characters have been given a lot of thought, particularly with regard to their moves and power-ups, and there have been no corners cut in ensuring that they look, feel, and fight authentically.

If you've ever wanted to pit Samus from Metroid against Princess Peach, then now is your chance - with the utterly chaotic mayhem of a 4-player battle, fun is guaranteed. It's very easy to get to grips with, and you only need to know a few buttons to be able to win the game - it's designed with ease of use and accessibility as its primary concern, and as far as game remakes go, this is among the very best. A visually appealing, immaculately designed game with some of the very best multiplayer on a console.

Summary: Simply fantastic
