Advantages: Clever puzzles, innovative style, plenty of action

Disadvantages: Can be tricky

Capcom is one of the biggest game and with this game they created something rather different. It seems like a game that you would only get to play in Japan but it's became quite popular with a sequel and a fighting game spin-off.

The graphics are the first thing that set it apart. Instead of 3d it is a 2d sidescroller with cell shaded graphics. The second is the fact that whilst Joe is Viewtiful Joe he can speed up or slow down time but not infinitely. So when you slow down time it makes attacks easy to dodge and counter and if you speed up time your attacks do more damage with Viewtiful Joe literally going on fire. The time control aspect isn't just used for fighting it is also used for puzzles for example at one stage you need to activate a switch which has a drop of water falling on it so when you slow down time it becomes a massive drop pressing down the switch.

The story goes that Joe is at the cinema with his girlfriend when she is kidnapped by a villain in the movie and transported into the movie world. Joe follows her and is helped by the superhero Captain Blue to transform into Viewtiful Joe.

This is a good game especially if you want a challenging platformer/action game with a bit of a twist. I haven't played the second game but I would presume this one would be better and cheaper. It's also challenging so it should take you a while to finish it.

Summary: A bargain game, definitely worth a look
