Advantages: Easy to use, good results

Disadvantages: Heavy

I have not long moved house and the garden has needed a lot of attention, so I have been spending a lot of time planning and organising what to do and where to put things, we had a partly rotten pergola, which my handy husband has salvaged and turned into to a herb trough for outside the kitchen, so I need something to fill it and whilst perusing the isles in Homebase I came across their own brand multi purpose compost, a bag costs £4.99 for 120 litres and at the time it was on a 3 for 2 offer, so car fully loaded and then unloaded by handy, strong husband, as the bags are very heavy and awkward to lift I set about thinking about which herbs, which I had grown from seedlings in the potting shed, I would place where.

The compost is designed to be peat free, ideal for all plant growth stages, absorbs water easily and will feed plants for up to 5 weeks. The compost is much like any other I have used, in that it smells earthy, is dark brown in colour and it has a light, crumbly feel, though you do get a few lumps in the bag which will need to be broken up with a fork.

I ended up using 1.5 bags in total, and found that with two (me and husband) people we could life the bag and empty it straight into the trough, when I am on my own I tend to cut open the bag and then scoop the compost out, as it is easier that way. I planted coriander, flat leaf parsley, curly parsley, apple mint, garden mint, basil, thyme, oregano and chives.

Overall I would give this product 4 stars as all of my herbs have grown well, I have not had any issues with water logging, which I thought I might given the terrible wet weather we have been having and also given that the product absorbs waster easily, so to conclude the compost has performed well and I would repurchased, especially when it is on special offer.

Summary: Worked for me
