Raid Fly & Wasp Killer
Advantages: Really does kill them quickly and is easy to use
Disadvantages: At the end of the day it is a chemical and i would prefer to use something more natural
I don't like using too many products around the house that contain chemicals but this summer we have been inundated with flies around the house and I felt the need to actually use fly killer as opposed to just trying to ignore them and continue using a splatter. I think it must have had something to do with the wet weather and although I don't take any pleasure in killing flies they are dirty insects especially the bluebottles and I really don't like them in the house especially near food so the bottle of Raid had to come out.
Raid is an amazing fly killer and one that I have been using on and off for years as it has more than proven itself time and time again in being one of the easiest and quickest ways of dispatching flies. A fly swatter is all well and good but when you can't actually get the little blighters to stay still long enough to get them you need to spray them with something that will hit them even if they are flying and drop them to the floor quickly and this is where Raid comes in.
Raid Fly and Wasp killer is a chemical that comes in a 300ml spray can that resembles a can of hairspray. To use it all you have to do is aim it in the general direction of the fly and press down to release the chemical and 9 times out of 10 it will kill the fly on the first go. Because it is a disperses in the air in quite a wide area even if you miss the fly directly it will usually still do the job. It also makes it a lot easier to directly target the fly if it is still at the time and unlike with a splatter the fly won't have the chance to fly away before you have got it. I like the fact that this kills flies in such a quick way and they drop from the air almost as soon as the spray hits them so I don't feel as bad thinking that they might be suffering.
Supposedly holding down on the spray for a few seconds will fill a whole room and kill all the flies in it but I honestly have never found this to be the case and if you really do want to spray an entire room then it would be better to spray some short bursts at different points in the room. The smell from the spray also isn't as bad as some others and Raid have really improved this in recent years. When I used to use Raid a few years ago it had a really strong chemical smell to it which you could actually taste when spraying but now the smell is nowhere near as bad and is so subtle that within about 5 minutes or so I can no longer smell anything.
As well as killing flies and wasps the spray can be used on most flying insects including midges. This used to be a real lifesaver when I lived in the countryside in summer when my room would be filled every night with them. I don't have to use it nearly so much for midges since I moved back to town but if you are having problems with midges biting you in the night then this might be something to consider.
Raid Fly and Wasp killer is fantastic at doing what it is supposed to and killing flies and other flying insects but at the end of the day it is still a chemical so you do need to be careful with it. I would much rather use something all natural to eliminate flies and there are some good all natural products on the market but at the end of the day sometimes these just don't work well enough and I know that I can rely on this to completely eliminate them. The only problem with it is having to pick all the little flies up off the floor after they have dropped and died.
Summary: Really does kill flies and other flying insects quickly and easily
