Advantages: Quite effective, results in 1-2 days.
Disadvantages: May need further application on stubborn stronger weeds.
I have purchased tools such as an electric hedge cutter which makes life a lot easier when tackling the hedges and shrubs, but as far as weeds are concerned it has been the old spade and weeding tools and some hard work, to constantly remove weeds sprouting up in the garden, the patio area and also on the driveway. It is not always easy to get to the root when digging and so not long after removing what is on the surface, the weeds are back again.
A couple of years back I bought a weedkiller spot treatment spray from my local B&Q which promised to get rid of the weeds for good and set about spraying the patio area and some stubborn weeds in the garden. A couple of days later, one or two looked as if they had withered and were possibly dying, but overall I was left less than impressed and felt I had wasted my money.
I was aware of the advertising for Roundup and its promises, but was not really sure about spending money once again only to be left disappointed by a product not living up to its claims.
A friend of mine however, did say this stuff was 'pretty good' and better than what she had used in the past and recommended I give the spot treatment spray a try, stating that it would be easier than using my weeding tool, hoe and spade to rid my patio and driveway of the pesky weeds that kept springing up.
I remained sceptical, but seeing as I had some money left on a B&Q voucher I decided to give it a try.
Roundup have a number of products on the market to kill weeds, but seeing as how it was this Roundup Ready To Use Fast Action Formula that my friend had recommended, I didn't really want to try anything else at this stage.
Roundup Ready To Use Fast Action Formula is a pre-diluted, ready to use glyphosate weedkiller, formulated to kill weeds and roots from a single application. It claims that visible results can be seen in 1-2 days followed by systemic action to kill weeds right down to the roots so they don't come back.
After spraying this product lightly onto any weeds, it starts working to kill most garden weeds and grasses with a single application. On the inside of the weed, the systemic action takes Roundup to all the weed's growing points to kill the weed from the 'inside out'.
It is approved for use all around the garden, on gravel areas, paths, drives etc. It can also be used to clean up weedy areas before planting vegetables, flowers, shrubs as it fully degrades in soil allowing replanting.
Children and pets can play on the treated area once dried and so I made sure I kept my cat indoors and away from the areas I had sprayed until the next day when I knew it would be dry. Of course it is always important to read the information on any product for use in your garden if you have pets.
So did it work?
Well the answer to that I am pleased to say is yes, although it didn't eliminate all the weeds first time around as one or two of the stubborn ones refused to die and remained steadfast and strong. They weren't going down without a fight!
Now whether or not this was down to me maybe not spraying enough, I am unsure, but when I applied a further application, I found that after a couple of days there was progress!
On the smaller weeds however and in particular those pesky ones which spring up inbetween the paving stones and along the edge of the drive and the patio, Roundup worked well and after just one day I could see that this product was indeed killing the weeds.
Roundup Ready To Use Fast Action Formula is a product I found very easy to use with its handy trigger action spray and it can be used from February to November. The trigger also has a child security feature, but to be honest if my children were still small now I wouldn't store any product like this where they could get their hands on it anyway.
I am quite happy to recommend Roundup Ready To Use Fast Action Formula and even though it didn't work first time on some of the larger weeds, a second application helped and overall it was a lot easier than digging. Plus the weeds have not returned thus far which is fantastic. I do still have a problem with weeds springing up elsewhere however and so I will continue to purchase this product, but it does pay to do some price-checking before purchasing. I paid £4.98 for a 1 litre bottle from B&Q, but prices seem to vary for this product from around £3.50 to £7.00 for the same size bottle at various stores and online retailers.
Summary: An effective and easy to use weed killer which certainly beats digging!
