When I first moved into my house I had a small front lawn and at the back of the house was what most people would call a yard. It was just a load of paving slabs with weeds coming through every crack they could possibly get through. I'm not much of a gardener so I wanted a low maintenance garden. A couple of my friends who love to garden came round and redesigned the front and the back of my house.

They started by taking up the lawn at the front and all the slabs from round the back and replaced them all with gravel. They put in a nice small flower bed round the back and some lavendar plants in the gravel at the front. For the first few weeks my garden pretty much took care of itself. Then all of a sudden the odd weed started to come through the gravel. Thankfully it was mainly the front that I had weed problems with, the back garden seemed to stay nice and weed free.

So I went down to Wilkos to find something to rid me of those pesky weeds. This is where I came across Weedol, its a brand I had heard of and it wasn't expensive so I bought myself a 1 litre bottle. Weedol is a fast acting weed killer, its rainproof and weed control does not reduce even if light rain falls 10 minutes after application.

The Weedol gun comes in a red bottle holding 1 litre and should always be stored and carried upright when not in use. The Weedol gun will treat 10 square metres and can be used throughout the year.

To use

1. Shake well. Press down firmly on top of trigger head immediately behind yellow nozzle to depress safety tab.
2. At the same time twist nozzle to spray position (1/4 of a turn wither way).
3. Spray weeds thoroughly to the point of run-off, ensuring leaf surfaces and stems are covered evenly.
4. After use turn nozzle to stop.

Weedol can be used on paths, drives, patios and between cultivated plants. Although you should be careful around plants as Weedol will kill them as well.

I get alot of weeds coming through the gravel at the front of my house, I think this is because it used to have grass there before and its trying to make a comeback. If I can pull the weeds up I will but alot of the time they seem to be thistles that leave there roots behind and are back before I know it. These I tend to give a good spray and it seems to have halted there progress considerably.

Weedol is really handy if you dont have time to weed the garden thoroughly, I always use it now especially on the more tougher weeds that are rooted down to the core. I also have a blocked paved drive and the weeds can be a right pain. But once again Weedol does the job. I have noticed weeds starting to go yellow in colour a couple of hours after application and the next day they are dead.

For best results apply Weedol in calm conditions, further application may be needed on newly germinated weed seeds and any regrowth. The only thing it doesnt really have much effect on is bind weed and nettles if there are bigger than 10cm in size. Other than that Weedol is one powerful weedkiller, killing weeds within days.

As always with these kind of products, keep away from children, eyes and skin and do not breath in spray. Wash hands after use.

Weedol can be purchased from Supermarkets but more cheaply from Wilkinsons, 1 litre bottles are between £2.50 - £3.00
