Advantages: no running costs, easy to use, works!

Disadvantages: none

I noticed this product for the first time in the four years since we bought it about a week ago when I tripped over it putting out the bin and thought, oh I must review it on dooyoo, because that I hadn't noticed it meant it was doing it's job really well - marvellous!

We bought our Solar Mole Deterrent from www.gardendirect.co.uk for £29.99 in 2004, but nowadays it can be found online for £12.95 (for example at http://www.primrose-london.co.uk). The product has a circular top with a solar panel on it ontop of a short stake. The stake is pointed which makes it really easy to "install" - just push into the ground and away you go. The product deters burrowing animals by releasing a vibrating sound and recharges through the solar panel on it's top, so needs no maintenance once it's jabbed into the ground. It must be able to store a fair bit of energy as I have on occasion heard it buzz at night or when it's especially cloudy. If you were trying to relax in the garden and were right besides it you may hear the buzzing and it might irritate or disturb you, but if you were more than about 5m away I doubt you'd notice it. The moles are deterred but not harmed, though where they go is another matter. We live in the middle of quite wild farmland, I don't think solar mole deterrent would necessarily be such a popular choice in an urban area.

When we first arrived at our property the small field at the back was covered in mole hills, risking injury to my horse if we let her graze there. Now there are none at all. We placed the deterrent at the bottom of our approx 1/2 acre field and have seen no sign of mole since in either our field or garden.

Summary: if you want rid of moles, this is the simplest way!

I must tell my friend about this. Their garden is covered in mole hills!

This is a good, humane idea. My grandad had this knack of luring them out and bashing their heads in with a spade - well, that's what my Nan said anyway.. :(
