Advantages: Educational, Fun, Easy To Set Up and Maintain, Enviromentily Friendly
Disadvantages: Well If You Hate Worms.....
I originally chose this wormery because I wanted something that was made in the UK and not imported from Australia, which to me wasn't being very enviromently friendly !!.
I purchased it on tuesday morning, and it was delivered at 3pm on the wednesday.
I sat down and read the comprehensive instructions, then rolled my sleeves up, and got stuck in making up the bedding for the worms' first night in their new home.
The wormery came with about a 700g of worms, bedding, babies and eggs, and I couldn't wait until I could start feeding them, even though I was instructed not to feed them for a few weeks.
The wormery was placed in a shady spot in the garden (the snap on lid, was quite hard to get on / off which is my only complaint, but then it needs to be secure to stop the worms escaping)
Every day I went down to peek inside, and then after they had time to settle down I started to feed them, sparingly at first, as I understood that overfeeding was one of the main reasons of death by worms.
I started off feeding them melon, and within 2 days, there was only a sliver of rind left over, then I started to add teabags, cardboard, kitchen scraps, eggshells, paper (they ate my credit card statements with vigour)
The great thing about this wormery is when the 1st tray was full, you simply add the next and the worms travel upwards in search for food. Then its really easy to harvest the worm castings from the lower tray.
The wormery comes complete with initial bedding, a free kitchen caddy, food, mesh and easy to follow instructions, and of course a big bag of squirmy worms.
Its easy to buy extra trays to make the wormery as big as you want.
This wormery is brilliant, its made in the UK from recycled plastic and has been designed with loads of ventilation holes, a tap so you can easily empty the sump where the leachate drains to. Its grey in colour so doesnt retain the heat as much as black bins, and the worms must be happy, as they mate like crazy. After 5 months my worms are eating masses each day, my kids love it, they love holding the worms (!!) and we use the castings in their special garden, so they can see the benefits.
Every home should have one of these, they measure 60cm x 40cm so dont take up too much room, and are very easy to maintain, they dont smell, I did have an initial problem with fruit flies, but soon learnt to bury the food under the bedding, or damp newspaper.
Summary: cheaper and bigger than competitors, UK made, easy and fun to use, educational - great for kids
