      Very helpful

      garden chair from Lafuma

I really love being outside in my garden - preferable laying or sitting and reading a book! A few years ago I decided to treat myself to a couple of good quality loungers and chairs to add to my wooded table and chairs. After a lot of research I opted to buy from the French company Lafuma as they had good reviews and I really liked the look of what they had on offer. This review is about the Cham Elips padded high backed chair. Lafuma also make a range of other products such as rucksacks, boots and camping equipment.Indeed if I owned a monkey I would be buying a Lafuma rucksack to carry him round with me!

Lafuma products are available either directly from the manufacturer via their web site or from several other outlets. A full list is available on the Lafuma web site. The brand is also available from many garden centres and I bought my loungers and chair from a local garden centre where I was able to negotiate a reasonable discount for buying several items.

What you get for your money.
The Cham Elips chair is available in a padded version or a cheaper stretchy fabric version. Having looked at both I opted for the padded version as I felt it would give better support and prevent cold air from circulating around my back.

The padded version is available in 6 colours including blue. My local garden centre only had a choice of beige or blue so the choice was easy! The chair is fully collapsible and measures 104 x 64 x 10 cm when folded. When in position the chair is 43 cm in height from the floor to the seat and the seat depth is 38 cm. The chair is quite light weighing 2.9 kg.

The chair has a lightweight aluminium and steel frame and plastic moulded armrests that allow you to alter the position of the chair whilst sitting in it; simply life the armrest and slide to your required position.

The padded seat is made from a 50/50 poly cotton blend and is filled with high density foam for comfort. The chair conforms to UK fire regulations.

      In the chair
This chair is probably the most comfortable upright chair I have owned. The padded seat is really soft and comfortable and the high slightly angled back allows my head to rest on padding and not the hard frame as with other brands I have tried.

It is very easy to alter the position of the chair by pulling up the armrests and sliding into a different position. The seat is quite large so gives plenty of room to sit well back. The chair is easy to fold and there are safety catches to prevent fingers getting pinched in the folding mechanism. When folded the chair takes up little room so the chair is easy to store. But what I really like with it is just sit in it and relax!

It is possible to buy an addition footrest to fit this chair but with a price tag of £27.50 it isn't something I can justify!

      My opinion.
This is an expensive chair with the padded version costing around £90 and the mesh fabric costing £70. However I think it is money well spent if like me you enjoy lazing comfortably in the garden! The chair is also light enough to be taken on camping trips and will add a bit of luxury. The chair looks like a high quality item as far as I am concerned and I really like the colour and feel of the fabric. I really appreciate the cotton blend fabric; so much nicer to sit on than cheap nylon! In hot weather the seat pad feels cool and doesn't stick to your legs! If I was given a chicken every time my legs have stuck to cheap plastic chairs, I would be an egg bound vegetarian by now!

If I had to find a negative point it would be that the seat pad is not removable for washing although can be sponged clean. I always store my chairs in my shed when not in use and wouldn't recommend leaving them out in the rain.

This chair is also available in an extra large size that has a wider and longer seat.

Overall this is a really comfortable, well made chair that will hopefully last for many years to come. But what I really like to do with it is sit in it with no children around sipping a glass of something cool and alcoholic!
