Advantages: Simple to unfold and fold away, small to store, easy to carry, comfortable to sit in
My daughter and I were going to a concert last year that was out doors and I didn't realise when I booked up that they only provided a limited number of seats, but luckily someone who had been to the venue before told me to take along out own chairs to make sure we got a seat.
At the time I did not own any kind of folding up chair and through my mind I was thinking I would have to buy those chairs with the metal frame that fold up but stay quite big. This was not really a wonderful option as we were going to have to travel there by train and I am not that good at carrying things due to a disability in my shoulders and arms.
Then we were in Tesco and saw these chairs on sale and my Other Half suggested I buy a couple of these chairs.
The chairs were folded up quite small but in a long shape and they were in cloth bags that you could carry over your shoulder. I tried lifting one in the shop and found they were not that heavy and it felt quite comfortable to carry, so I bought two of them.
When we got home I got one out of the bag and it looked like a load of metal sticks with so many joins and corners, I was thinking I would never be able to fathom out how it went but to my surprise, I gave it a good shake and it just seemed to open up of its own accord. I just had to push the bits into shape a bit more and there was this nice chair standing in front of me.
The next thing I was worrying about was that I am not the smallest person in the world though not too big to fit inside the chair, but I was worrying that I might be too heavy for the legs etc to support my weight as they really did look quite spindley. My Other Half who is a bit bigger than me said he would try one out first as if it collapsed to the floor he could get up a lot easier than me, but hey presto, the seat supported his weight so I put up the other chair to make sure it wasn't broken and sat in it.
I was really suprised as the chair was nice and comfortable to sit in. It has a bit of a padded back to it which was nice and comfy and the back of the seat was a nice height, it measures about 38 inches high. The arms of the chair are a nice height and they felt fine for me to rest my arms on (due to my disability I was a bit worried about these being too high or even just too firm but they were just right). On the right hand arm there is a hole where you can place a can of drink or a bottle which was going to be really handy when going to the concert as if you put a can down on the grass underneath the chair it is liable to tip over and you lose your drink.
On the evening of the concert the chairs would be put through their pace. I carried my chair up to the train station and then a walk the other end too. It felt like it was getting heavier and heavier but was not too uncomfortable to carry. I did feel a bit self concious at first with us both carrying these chairs around the town but once we got to the place nearly everyone was carrying one of some kind or another.
When we got to the concert I showed my daughter how to open it up and she was surprised it was so simple to do. Once perched in the chair I was quite happy with myself for buying the chairs as they were nice and comfortable to sit in and we were there for a good 4 hours or more. I was thinking may be when it was over and I had to stand up and walk about may be then I would start feeling it and it might have been bad for my back or legs, but no, I seemed to be fine, next morning would be the telling point. The seat was really easy to fold up again, as you lifted it up from the floor it seemed to fold itself up and even getting the cover back on again was a simple procedure.
After a good nights sleep I woke up none the worse for wear for the four hours spent sitting in this chair so I would give it a big thumbs up. We now get them out in the garden if we have extra people coming round and find they are brilliant to store away afterwards. I paid about £10 for the chair last year so although you can get a cheaper option I am really pleased with the ones I got.
