Solar Brite 50 LED Super White Solar Fairy String Lights
by tinkerbell69
Lately I've been spending a bit of money on doing up our garden and buying various garden ornaments and features etc. but the one thing missing was some pretty lights! We have quite a few bushes and small trees in our garden and one in particular is right next to our front door and I really wanted to find some lights to light up this ... bush!
I wanted some sort of Fairy Light style string lights to go in the bush, but of course I needed to find some that were solar powered so that they would come on automatically at night time. I looked in places like Argos and Greenfingers.com and found that the kind I wanted were at least £20+ which I nearly did pay. But before going ahead with my purchase I thought it was worth having a look on Amazon.co.uk first to see if they had anything cheaper (they normally do!) That is how I came across the Solar Brite LED White Fairy Lights, they were cost me about £12.50 delivered which was a lot cheaper than I'd found elsewhere and I was also reassured by the description on Amazon which stated that these lights were great for trees and bushes, so I bought these ones.
I had expected these lights to be quite tricky to put nicely on my garden bush without them looking all over the place, but to me surprise I was able to wind these easily around the bush with no hastle. The solar power part has a spike attached to it so that it stand wells in soil and I have to say it is very secure and doesn't fall over at all. My next concern was whether or not these lights were going to be bright enough as my past experience with Solar Lights hasn't exactly been great, I've often found them to be very dim and some only worked for me half the time! But again I was delighted to see my garden bush lit up with very bright white lights as soon as night came (I can see why they are called Solar Brite) when the lights did come on though they were flashing like Christmas lights much to my embarrasment! So I got my partner to go outside and see if the settings could be changed to just steady lights instead of flashing and thank goodness with a click of a button they could and they looked lovely on the steady setting.
The lights had came with instructions which I'm sure would have told me about the different settings if I had bothered to read them (an annoying habbit of mine). Overall I am thrilled with my new garden lights and they have made such a difference to my garden already, they look so pretty at night and hey I can put them on the flashing setting when Christmas does come around! SuperLED 60 LED Garden Fairy Light String
by savvysaver
As anyone who reads my reviews will be aware , I love my garden and buying new products for it that will not only add to its beauty , but also be environmentally friendly are my top considerations .I have in the past bought Solar lighting from money saving high street shops such as poundland they did the job for a while and were ... comfortable on my pocket .
My husband who is terminally ill , loves to sit in the garden during the day and often stares out of the window into our secret garden of a night , his eyesight is quite poor and he was complaining that he could no longer see the solar lighting .
Being in the care industry I am well aware of the benefits of light therapy for people who have vision problems and went on an internet search .
I finally found what I was looking for on amazon , not only solar lights but a coloured string of lights with multi effects . I decided to purchase 4 boxes ...sounds a lot but for my purpose I needed it to be really colourful . Each box of lights cost £ 12.99 plus £3.50 shipping and handling , luckily the store that was selling them via amazon had a special deal on where you get free delivery if you spend over £50.
The Lights
Early next morning DPD delivered the lights to my door and I set about exploring their set up.
Each box contained a 7.5 meter string of lights , a ground stake , a wall mount ( unfortunately without the screws ) and the solar panel .Each solar panel holds a AA rechargable battery and a full charge lasts up to 12 hours , they are Fully Automatic, charging during the day, switch on at dusk and off at dawn .there is a switch on the base of the solar panel with three positions off / constant / Multi functions
All of these items literally clicked together after drilling holes into the fence and attaching the wall mounts I was then able to get artistic , spreading the lights in arcs and arches across the fences , once that was done it was the simple matter of placing the solar panel which is at the end of the string onto the wall mount .
When using these lights you have two options , you can either have the lights static or use the multi effect which is much the same as a string of Christmas tree lights , Choosing the multi effect mode actually uses less of the energy than having them on static .
It wasn't particularly sunny the day that I set them up so i wasn't expecting much from the lights ...I was so surprised ! at dusk they switched on and the colours were flittering all over the fence , green ,yellow, red, blue and orange , it was like a Moths Disco .
My husband sat in the kitchen for the remainder of the night completely mesmerized by the fact that he could now see the lights with their multi effect working. I have also bought five more sets of lights and had them strung up in my fathers garden as he loves them too.
These lights have come on every night for the last four weeks despite the dismal British summer .We had three consecutive days of dark skies and downpours and still the lights were burning brightly.I am extremely impressed !!
I would recommend these lights to anyone that wants to brighten up their garden , or just give it that little bit of pazzazz , you could use these lights for all manner of occasions , BBQs garden parties etc . Worth every penny of their £12.99 with no running costs .These are a must have for anytime of the year .
I have now uploaded a video to youtube , it's a bit wobbly because I took it on my phone , but you can see what I mean about a Solar Disco :) http://youtu.be/j0jwFIkFBoM Read the complete review |

Gardman Colour Changing Solar Lights / Crystalights
by abbadabbado
My mother in law went through a spate of buying us a variety of solar powered lights when we moved into our house a few years ago. One of the many varieties we have placed around our garden were the Gardman range of colour changing lights. I thought these were a really good idea when we first received them, much prettier than just your ... normal solar powered lights.
The design of the lights are quite slim and classic in appearance. They look a lot different from the average shape of solar light you can buy in many retailers.
Each light is just under half a metre in height, and they come with the solar powered panel on the top of the clear tube that acts as the stand. Whilst the tube is clear when the lights aren't on, there is a pretty bubbled effect running through the plastic.
The solar powered panel itself isnt too big for the thin tube and looks consistent with the design. I was wondering if this meant that the power would be reduced as the surface layer isn't as large as I would like.
Inside the solar panel, there is a rechargeable battery which obviously charges with the sun. You have the option to turn the lights on or off when it comes to dusk time in the garden. We have learnt that to gain maximum effect from each light, the trick is to leave the lights off during the day and then turn them on when the light starts to fade and then your garden will come alight in a range of coloured glows.
The effect of the lights when they have been sitting in bright sunshine for at least eight hours is lovely. The lights glow quite bright in their own right, and they stay lit all night literally.
Each individual colour of the lights stay on the primary standard shades of each colour in terms of green, red, blue etc. I think this works better for solar lights if you're choosing colours over clear lights.
To care for the lights, it's better if you remove them from the garden in the winter and rainy months as this will help prolong their lives.
We learnt the hard way with a couple of the lights we received. Their stakes on the base of the light is quite thin plastic, and when we tried to pierce some solid ground, we managed to snap one. Poor light had to sit in the garden propped up in a large flower pot.
Generally the lights are well made and quite strong for what you are buying. When you think about the fact that it's mainly plastic and not suitable for damp conditions, then these are hardy and last well.
We learnt that these lights came in a set of two and cost in the region of ten pounds per set. I think this is quite a high price to pay for just two lights, and not sure I would actually buy them myself. They are however a lovely present to receive. Read the complete review |
