Advantages: Good price, all you need is a tea light, lovely effect, safe to use
Disadvantages: None that I have found
In my last couple of reviews you will have seen that I spoke about the solar lights in my garden. We moved house last year and we really did not have a great deal of money left over to do anything with the garden so all I was able to do was add a few pots with some shrubs in for a little bit of colour and pop some of the fairy lights into the borders. One thing that we do like so eating outside though and having friends and family around for barbeques but as the evenings would draw in we really couldn't see a thing so I invested in a couple of outdoor candles and lanterns and one of these was the Glass Bell Votive Lantern.
I have noticed that there is now quite a big market for outdoor lighting in the shops so I really did have plenty to choose from. I had a look around and in the garden centres they were all quite expensive but when I went into my local Wilkinson's store I was happy to find some outdoor lanterns on a really good offer. The Glass Bell Votive lantern is not exclusive to Wilkinson's as you can also by it online from Amazon and I am sure that I have seen it in other high street stores such as B and M. The price appears to be the same where ever I look and an individual one will cost you £4.50. I ended up buying a couple. The lantern does require you to pout your own tea light in it but you can pick up bags of cheap tea lights for really reasonable prices these days, in fact I got mine in Wilkinson's the same time I got the tea light.
The candles that I brought did not come in a box and as the main material here is glass you do need to be a little bit careful with them. The glass is a clear one and all you need to do is pop the tea light inside. The shape of the tea light is quite clear from the picture above, the base of the tea light is slightly smaller than the opening, and there is plenty of room for you to place the tea light into the lantern as it does have this wide opening. The glass jar then has some wire on clipped onto the sides so that if you wish you can hang the lantern up, I have never done this and always placed the lanterns onto the table but I think it would give a lovely effect hanging from something. It is not a large lantern so you can afford to have more than one; the dimensions are 9.5 x 10cm.
I think the thing that I like most about the lantern is the simplicity of its design and I think this goes in some way to contributing to the cheaper price. I have nothing really negative to say about the product but I guess you do have to be careful when using this if you have young children around due to the lantern getting knocked and there being a naked flame. I guess that some would argue that this is a seasonal product but when I am not using the lanterns at outdoor features they look quite attractive on a table or around my fire place so for £4.50 I think this is a really good buy!
In summary, I would have no hesitation in recommending the lanterns, they are a really great price and add a lovely effect to your garden, they can even be used in the home when your not dining outside.
5 out of 5 from me
