Advantages: Fairly cheap, well made (thick glass), look pretty lit, added to great centerpieces, adaptable

Disadvantages: None

I think officially these Glass Bell Votive Lanterns, by Garden Trading, are meant to be used in the garden, but I've used the 10 I have (yes, 10, I'll explain why shortly) in the garden, at home on the fireplace and as part of table centerpieces, so I think they are quite adaptable. I bought my Glass Bell Votive Lanterns online, from eBay and paid £3 per lantern including postage and free tea lights to use inside them, so I thought that was a good buy. I've seen them selling for up to £5 on their own, so I think that I got a good price. Thankfully, they also came very well packed, so there were no glass breakages.

The lanterns weren't quite as big as I'd expected, being around 10cm high and the same in width, but with a rounded, attractive shape to them. The glass is quite thick, which is good as I don't think thin glass can take the heat from the tea light candle inside as well as thicker glass can. Around the lip of the lantern, there's a metal wire ring and attached to this is a wire handle for if you need to carry the lantern around once it's lit, or if you want to hang it up somewhere.

I have never needed to hang my lanterns up, as I used my 10 as part of my wedding centerpieces, using flowers and other decorative tools around them to create a lovely candlelit atmosphere that looked great in the evening. The lanterns get a little warm when in use, but they don't get very hot as the round shape of the glass is actually quite a way from the tealight candle's flames, meaning this feels like a very safe and secure candle lit lantern. I think it's as safe as you can get with candles really, but I did really like the look and they worked well as part of my table decorations.

Since then, I've used the lanterns for various things, including at outdoor barbeques in the Summer and just to create a nice atmosphere inside the house. Being so simple, I think these lanterns are great as they can be left being quite plain or added to arrangements (bearing safety in mind of course) to create a lovely, decorative look. These lanterns proved to be a relatively inexpensive way to decorate my wedding reception tables and have served me well since, so I can highly recommend them.

Summary: Great lanterns that looked lovely added to wedding table centerpieces, plus many more uses!
