“ Type: Chiminea / Fire Pit „
I bought this chiminea after seeing one in a friends garden and i thought it made a big difference to the ambience in their garden and gave it a nice warm and friendly atmosphere whilst also looking stylish. So i bought the small Landmann chiminea in my local garden shop for around £40. I was pleased with the look it gave my garden, it looked just as nice as it did in my friends garden but i have to admit i was concerned about how safe chimineas are to actually use.
Since i was a child i've always had quite a strong fear of fire so when i tried the chiminea out for the first time i was quite shocked firstly at how much smoke the chiminea gave off and also by how easily it seemed the fire could get out of control. I tried buring both wood and charcoal but both seemed to be just as bad. It also made quite a mess of burnt ashes around the area in which my chiminea stood. I ended up putting the fire out and i now just have the chiminea as a garden decoration.
Perhaps it's just my phobia of fire that has caused me to have this opinion, but personally these chimineas just don't seem that safe to me when lit.
I was so excited to try out my new chimnea this year. We were having friends round for a barbeque so I thought great we'll put it on for the guests!
We had a fabulous barbecue and the weather held - hooray! It started getting a little chilly so we decided to light the chimnea. I had bought one of those fire logs which you just light and it starts burning!
I thought the chimnea would be great for all of us to sit around so that we could all keep warmm rather than just those who are sat directly in front of the chimnea. Some friends have got the other sort and unless you are sat directly in front of them it's not warm.
So with that in mind we placed it in the centre of us all and lit it! ha! well what a fire, in fact the flames were licking outside of the grated bits! it was quite a sight. Our guests had a little two year old which was a bit worrysome so in the end we put up some chicken wire which we had and put it all round about 2 foot away to prevent her from going anywhere near it!
It had the desired effect of being extremely warm and toasty but a little scary!! as it died down it wasn't so bad although was extremely hot!
I wanted to be honest on this review - so as those with little children don't purchase this item! I think with a bit of trial and error we may get the desired effect without the flames. If I work this out I will update this review!
Despite my reservations I am still quite pleased I just won't be recommending fire logs with this particular chimnea!
The other point to make is that it was quite tricky to put together and mine was damaged in the box, once I got the parts that were damaged replaced and put it together it's quite smart looking. It has a little handle for the door so that it can be taken off to poke it.
A classic chimnea suitable for both Wood and Charcoal burning. It can be used as a small barbecue. 92cm High.
