“ Brand: Argos / Type: Hose „
My wife and I were looking for a pressure washer and garden hose that we could use to clean our paving slabs in our relatively small front and rear gardens after our previous attempt with chemicals had failed. Early last week (wc 17 September 2012) she went online and reserved a pressure washer and 15m Hozelock hose at our local Argos Superstore using their reserve and collect service and visited the store later the same day after I finished work.
After buying both products and whilst still in the store we realised that a 15m hose was probably not long enough to reach to the edge of our garden after being trailed from our kitchen tap and out through our backdoor so we had a refund and whilst at the customer services section replaced it with a 25m value hose on a reel. The value hose set was £19.99, £3 more than just the shorter Hozelock hose but we couldn't really justify (at the time) the extra £10 or so for the equivalent Hozelock version. It came as a surprise that the value hose set was going to take almost twice as long as the two items that we had already bought - perhaps it was an omen of things to come!
Our kitchen has a mixer tap with a narrow swan like neck and my wife had to go to B & Q to find a connection that would screw in it so that the hose wouldn't slip off and surprise surprise the only one that would fit was made by Hozelock.
Rather than wait for me, she had put the pressure water together, fitted the attachment to the tap and fixed the hose on the reel.
Well that was fine I thought, but the hose was full of kinks which couldn't be straightened and we couldn't connect the hose to the tap or to the pressure washer - despite the range of very flimsy fittings in the bag that was provided. I wasn't interested in using the hose on its reel, my reason for buying the reel was merely as a means of keeping it tidy and stored out of the way. So, it was another visit to B & Q to replace the connections that came with the reel with (yes, you've guessed it) Hozelock ones - for just under £10.
With the new fittings attached the pressure washer was finally connected and did a really good job of cleaning the slabs but as we moved the pressure washer from the back of our house to the front worse was to follow - the hose was leaking and had at least 2 holes that were trailing water through our hallway and in a number of places had bent and turned white as those it had split.
The hose is green and made of very thin plastic and comes with connectors and spray gun. They are all flimsy (easily squeezed or broken) and will not fit Hozelock connectors (too short). When we tried connecting to the pressure washer and taps using the connectors provided the hose slipped off at both ends. In fact the most useful part of the value hose and reel was the hose itself which seemed relatively robust with metal handle and built in connector. We decided not to use this method as it would have meant cutting the hose and would have prevented us from returning it should (as did happen) it be faulty.
Kinks we can live with but this product is not fit for purpose and would not recommend the Argos Value Hose and Reel to anyone. In our case, what we spent on it and the Hozelock connectors would have bought a far superior Hozelock version from Argos which included the connectors we had to buy separately for the cheaper product. As for our value hose and reel, well it is waiting for it's return journey to Argos to be replaced by the dearer Hozelock one.
