The Blagdon Minipond 700 is the smallest in the Minipond range and is designed primarily for use in water-features.
The pump itself is small and so would fit in every shop-bought sump I've come across and is aimed at those wanting to create a small fountain - in a pebble pool perhaps. It isn't, however, small enough for use in some self-contained water features that you buy straight 'off the shelf.' By this I mean moulded/stone features such as the Henri range. The minipond is much too large physically for use in these.
The pump circulates 700 litres per hour and so delivers a small fountain of approximately 1.5-2ft in height dependant on the fountain head used - several are included including a multiple-tier and a bell fountain head. The flow restrictor siuated at the base of the fountain riser allows you to make the fountain lower/smaller if needed.
The main casing of the pump comes apart eaily for cleaning and contains a sponge to filter out larger particles to prevent to fountain head from clogging up. It is for this reason that the pump is not suitable for use in a pond environment. The sponge and filter head would clog up with fish waste/silt very quickly and would require daily maintenance. In a sump environment I've found that it still requires regular maintenance in order to keep the fountain as large as possible as some small particles do make it past the sponge.
The impellor is easy to access and clean although it isn't very sturdy and care should be taken not to break it. Spare impellors are available but at £15 or so (the pump itself is usually around the £20 mark), are very expensive.
The pump comes with a 2 year guarantee on the electrics which is impressive for such a small/cheap item. The impellor mentioned above is not guaranteed as it is classed as a perishable item however.
All in all a good, cheap item that's great for small water features. Ideal if you're not sure about the whole water gerdening idea but want to give it a try on the cheap!
I have recently purchased this small pond / water feature pump, and I am very happy with it. The minipond pump, is a very simple, no frills water feature pump. The pump has good pressure, and moves plenty of water, considering it's tiny footprint. The pump is very small, and will fit comfortably in the sump of most self contained water features, or pebble pools. The pump comes complete with a small sponge on the inlet, to stop grit and gravel damaging the impellor assembly. The pump also comes complete with a few different fountain head options. There are traditional daisy jets, and a bell jet head to give you options in a small pond or pebble pool. The pump does not have to be used with any fountain attachments however, it can be simply attached to 1/2" hose pipe, and used for millstones, monoliths, and many other self contained water features.
Ideal For Pebble Pools Small Pond Fountains And Water Features. Minipond Pumps Are Supplied With Sectional Riser Pipes A Flow Control And 3 Fountain Jet Options.
