I never set out to buy this product, however, whilst looking for a bargain in the soon to be departed Focus store I spotted this - Hozelock PortaShower 4 in 1 product code 4140 (mine is clear/yellow/grey).
It was originally priced at £25 but marked down to £20 - ok so not a "oh my god" bargain but still when I spotted it I wanted it and on the internet it has various prices from £15 in sales right up to £60!
Hozelock are a well known company mainly trading in gardening and hosepipe equipment so well known and generally good standards of equipment in my opinion - plus they give you a 2 year guarantee.
** SO WHAT IS IT? AND HOW DOES IT WORK **
Well as the name would suggest it is a portable shower.
The product is advertised as a 4 in 1 item which they suggest you can use for :-
1 - gardening 2 - car washing 3- camping 4 - dogs
The product comes in a cardboard box and with a very simple set of instructions in numerous languages. The instructions to comprise said shower are in picture format, which is good as you can see what piece you are looking for but a little wording to go with it might have been nice, as all the pictures do look a little confronting at a first glance. It is however split into assembly, operation and maintenance sections. Overall it was quite simple to put together and my partner did most of it without looking at the book anyway - as most men seem too!
Over the page are some warning pieces, these are simple as most some what straight forward:-
- Don't spray solvents or paints with it.
- Drain liquid after use, especially in winter so it doesn't freeze and break.
- Yearly give a general clean and check seals and grease as necessary.
- Don't over pressurise or fiddle with the release valve.
Also on this page are trouble shooting guides, spare parts numbers and manufacturers details.
Basically the item is a large plastic container which will carry 7 litres of water, 5 litres when pressurised. You simply fill it with water and soap if needed, pump the handle on top to pressurise, then use the shower head which is attached to a flexible plastic hose type pipe. The best way of holding it is with a carry strap that is provided and put over your shoulder, it sounds heavy with 5 litres but I find it no problem to use around the garden. With your filled port shower you get approximately 3 minutes spray time.
** DOES IT WORK? **
I have not used it for camping yet and to be honest would probably just use the camp site shower anyway but may use it for washing feet of sand and mud etc.
Gardening - brilliant it works wonderfully, the gentle spray means you can water flowers, even delicate ones without blasting the heads off, or risk the water can head falling off and drowning them.
Car washing - well it's ok, but the spray from the shower head really isn't powerful enough to get dirt and grim off. If you give your car a good scrub after a spray then spray off the suds it would be ok, but don't expect it to blast off bird poop etc.
Dogs - now this is what I actually wanted it for! You may already know, or not, that I have two Siberian huskies. Due to preferring temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees, in the summer months they get very hot and love to jump in water where ever available - river, cow trough there not fussy...
With this it not only means I can give them a fun time spray with them trying to catch the water - as the spray is so gentle it doesn't risk hurting them, but I can give them a bath too! Much safer and easier than trying to lift a large dog in the bath as we have no shower.
** OVERALL **
Great item as the water you can put in at what ever temperature you like, with or without soap. If you do get stuck on how to use it, visit www.hozelock.com there is a video on the port shower section!
