Advantages: Well made and robust, Hours of fun
Disadvantages: Prone too kinking, Too much hose
Boys and their toys inevitably grow into big boys and their very big (and extremely expensive toys) and le hose is one of the more satisfying of the outside variety...
Middle age being what it is, my attention over the last few years has been straying ever more readily in the attention of gardening and all things to do with it, although Mrs D keeps giving me a hard time about 'letting the garden go to rack and ruin' ever since I came across Dooyoo and Ciao - get your priorities right, old girl! I mean, it's far more interesting writing about something than actually doing it, after all.
Now, where was I.....
Oh yeah ... sorry, memory going, must be the drugs....
...all things gardening. As well as the garden itself and the plants you need, there's also the prospect of new MEN'S TOYS such as spade, fork, rake, hoe, lawnmower and THE GARDEN HOSE... my favourite.
You see when you have a garden and it gets to summer, just occasionally (VERY) you get a dry spell in le UK and to keep things going you have to have access to a ready water supply. The prospect of endless trips with a watering can quickly becomes one of the least attractive options and in this day and age there is really only one alternative ... THE GARDEN HOSE, you have just got to get one.
As far as garden hoses go, there is really only one name that matters and that is the marvellous Hozelock and its accessories.
When I got a hose, I went for the best one I could afford and opted for Hozelock's 30m hose and carrying cart - a real monster of a beast. I've been extremely chuffed with it and it's been of excellent value, BUT...
In retrospect, the 30m hose has been a bit of a mistake. I thought I would need that amount of pipe but it's a bit over the top and I've just got about 10m of hose that has remained curled up on the carry cart ever since I got it. Oh well, hindsight is a marvel
lously accurate science, or as Mrs D puts it, "You'll know next time Fatty..."
The kit comes with all the attachments you need, although unless you've got a tap with a screw nozzle you're going to struggle with any hose. You can get that attachment that claims to be able to deal with normal taps, but they're doomed to failure in my experience. You can also buy neat add on things like a rotating sprinkler if you really want to go deluxe and Mr Lazy (what do you think?)
When you use the hose, you need to make sure you avoid getting those unpleasant kinks in it (not the Tory kind, you understand, but the folds in the hose), because they will stop water flowing and you could well damage the hose despite its claim to have an inner tube as well as the outer one. It's certainly well made, but I'm getting increasingly paranoid these days.
I've been extremely satisfied with my buy and can heartily recommend it and I think you'll find there's nothing more certain to give you a feeling of total power that being able to stand in your front garden giving your plants (and the dave27-ettes when they start acting up...) a thorough soaking.
You can imagine yourself as Alexander the Great considering his empire from on high and casting the rains upon his deserving people (if you are really sad like me...)
Little things amuse little minds.
