When I first moved into my house the garden was a right mess with lumps and bumps every where, we got the garden as flat as we could by hand but before laying the turf we needed to roller the soil to get it as flat as possible so I invested in this garden roller for £89.99.

The roller is made of steel and weighs just 12 kg which is light enough to pick up and move around with relative ease but is no where near heavy enough to do the job it is intended for so the idea is you fill the roller with sand which isn't included with the roller to make it heavier, once full it will weigh 85 kg which is really heavy and there is no way I was going to be able to pull or push it at this weight so I only half filled the roller to make it light enough for me to use, it did mean I had to roller the same area a few times but I got the job done.

I was attracted to this style of roller for the above reason; I wanted something I could vary the weight in so I could use it on my own.

The shape of the handle makes it more comfortable to use but it did still hurt my hands after a while of using it.

I initially used this to level my back garden before laying the turf but I have since used it to flatten the ground before putting down slabs, to level an area I wanted to put gravel on and to repair patches in my grass with grass seeds as if I use the roller to push the seeds into the dirt it stops the birds eating them.

This roller has had a lot of use and other than looking dirty it is still in the same condition as when I got it so one of these will probably last me life time so was well worth the price for how useful it has been to me.
