      Very helpful

A lovely gift for anyone who loves gardening.

This time of year is so exciting in the garden. The blossom is all over the horizon, and because my garden is fringed by cherry and peach trees I am treated to a gorgeous scene of pink and white confetti like flowers reminding me that sowing time is well and truly here. So most mornings now will see me in my potting shed sowing various salad crops and flowers for my raised beds. The item I am reviewing is a very handy addition to my potting shed accessories and is called " Gardener's Tin of Labels", and you can find these on Amazon for the very reasonable price of £6.52.

I have set myself a target over the next few years to have a place for everything in my endeavours to save energy and be more organised. When I had my 4 children at home things did get very chaotic, and I never got round to really looking at storage, and never put systems in place to make life easier. Now I am putting that right and looking at all aspects of life from stationery and filing to groceries, and from gardening to diy, implementing storage and organisational systems so that everything is tidy, and I know where to find anything at a moment's notice. I have ME and with very low energy levels I have a tendency to drop things where I am, thinking "I'll move that later" - but of course later never comes!

At the end of last summer I cleared out the potting shed and found endless plant labels - I also found pots in my greenhouses without labels, so we were enjoying lovely lettuces, but were unable to identify the variety which was also very irritating. This was when I thought it was time to really get a system going in the potting shed so that plants were clearly labelled, and I knew exactly where to find the relevant labels and pencils to mark up properly the seeds I had sowed. I saw this tin on Amazon and decided to purchase as it looked like a perfect solution to my problems.

      Amazon- Simple To Order.
Ordering was simple, but there was a delivery charge as this is a marketplace item rather than an Amazon one, but I was happy to pay that as I wasn't able to source a product of this nature locally. The company supplying these are known as ATP Gifts on Amazon, which I researched and found this is the short name for themselves who are actually Apples to Pears at www.applestopears.com. They are a company supplying to trade customers, and they have a fantastic line in these gifts in tins that I am looking into further in my quest to keep tidy. I have so far seen some lovely gifts in the range, including one that has everything you need to grow sunflowers in a tin which would be a lovely gift for a junior school age child. There are also tins for garden bits and bobs, seed sowing and also one which contains things to to make a bird feeder. There is also an alternative design for the Gardeners Tin Of Labels which has a Union Jack- this looks bright and colourful.

      About The Tin
The tin is about the size of a large packet of tea bags, so isn't huge, and it is an attractive fern green. It does have the words "Gardeners Tin Of Labels" printed on the top, together with an image which depicts a selection of the labels supplied.

Inside there are 45 labels made from different materials including plastic and wood, and there is also a pencil supplied as well. The first thing to say is that I purchased this set really for the tin itself, rather than for the contents. Of course purchasing the labels individually is much cheaper, and I normally use a black marker pen for the labels rather than a pencil. However the purpose of this purchase was purely for the organisational aspect this tin provides, as I have been able to adapt the contents subsequently to reflect my own preferences, and to take advantage of more preferential rates for label purchases and so on.

      Ideal Gift
I would say that if you have a gardening friend or relative this would make a lovely inexpensive gift that really reflects the recipient's lifestyle, and would show that you have taken a lot of care to think through a gift that was suitable and reflective of their personality. I think it is an ideal gift for a grandparent especially, as I know my Dad would have loved this in his slightly younger days.

I think the tin is well made and strong and offers a practical solution for the storage of not only labels, but also the writing implements required to mark them up. My shed is no longer littered with labels, and I can easily pick them from the tin as needed. I am enjoying sowing seeds from my two favourite nurseries- Nicky's at www.nickys-nursery.co.uk- a wonderful nursery that is a source for all those less easy to find seeds - (all supplied with a label incidentally that you can complete so also money saving), and More Veg at www.moreveg.co.uk- - a fantastic place for the small gardener who can purchase tiny numbers of seeds at prices as low as 50p- no labels provided but of course I have many waiting in my tin!

      Final Thoughts
I am delighted with my purchase and so far I have been diligent in using it for the purpose and keeping my potting shed tidy in the process. I think this is a practical gift for anyone interesting in gardening, and is an excellent Christmas present for a friend or relative with green fingers!
