B&Q Flower Pot Terracotta
Advantages: Inexpensive. Look fine. Solid. Do not easily chip. Drainage hole.
Disadvantages: Not good if you want something decorative. Not unique.
My partner recently bought 6 terracotta flower pots from B&Q to pot some herbaceous plants that we'd also bought as a project to work on with our children. Neither of us are gardeners and so we took the advice of the sales staff at B&Q and they recommended that these very basic terracotta pots would do the job fine. Each were 23cm in diameter and they cost just £1.50 each. There are other sizes also - a 19cm diameter which cost £1.25, a 29cm diameter which cost £4.50 and a 37cm diameter which cost £7.25. All of these pots, I think, are a really good price as 6 pots for £9.00 sounds pretty unbeatable to me.
These pots, as I said, are basic flower pots that are manufactured from terracotta pottery. They have no decoration on them whatsoever, and therefore they are purely to be used for practicalities and if the focus is to be what is in the pot rather than the pot themselves! I know some people that have very elaborately designed pots which become a focal point in themselves - but these pots would not be good for this purpose. Having said that, they look traditional and well made and so do not look out of place in a nicely kept garden.
The pots feel sturdy and weigh 1.6kg and so they are heavy enough, especially with soil in them also, to provide a solid base. They do not get blown over and they do not get easily knocked over by the kids if they are running around - although they can be toppled if they suffer a heavy knock. However, despite two pots being knocked over, neither pot has suffered any chips or cracks. The pots do have a drainage hole in the bottom of the pot also.
The herbs have flourished well - which is surprising as we really haven't bothered with them much.....no green fingers in my famlily......but the pots have served us well. I would recommend them if you're looking for a basic terracotta pot for your plants.
Summary: Recommended as a basic pot.
