B&Q Ladies Extra Grip Gardening Gloves
Advantages: Good quality, ideal for some gardening tasks but not all.
Disadvantages: One size means these aret oo large in the fingers for my hands.
I recently had a voucher for B&Q and after purchasing some items with it, I was left with £2.50 to spend. Near the checkout, I spotted some extra grip ladies gardening gloves priced at just £2.48 and decided to add these to my purchases to use up my voucher.
The gloves were actually something I needed as my old ones are starting to show signs of wear and also are a little cumbersome when dealing with certain gardening tasks like planting flowers etc. These extra grip gloves are cotton and a lot thinner than the gloves I am used to, which I thought would make the job of planting and weeding an easier task.
Although the gloves are cotton, they do have non slip PVC palms and fingers to provide protection and a knitted elasticated cuff, which means these gloves slip on your hands easily and fit snugly around your wrists.
They are advertised as being ideal for wearing when using gardening tools and because they are thin cotton and most certainly not padded and bulky, it does make using tools a lot easier for me than when I used my previous pair, as the padded bulk of those meant they were awkward when holding a tool and so I tended not to bother wearing them when using tools. The polka dot grip on the PVC means that the tools do not slip from your hands and so feels secure at all times. The extra grip provides exactly that.
The downside to these gloves for me personally however, apart from the fact they are pink and I hate 'pink' things, is that they are too big for me. Although they do not slip off as the elasticated wrist cuff fits snugly and keeps the gloves on my hands, my fingers have too much room inside the fingers on the gloves and also my finger tips do not reach the ends of the gloves. This does not pose a problem for me when wearing them if using garden tools, but it is really awkward if I try to plant flowers for example when wearing these.
I had hoped that these would be ideal for me to wear when planting flowers in my tubs and borders, but because there is a good inch to spare in each finger it means doing anything intricate is difficult.
These gloves are only available in 'one size fits all' and so if you have small hands and slim fingers like I have you may find these gloves are too large. It is a shame as the wrist cuffs fit perfectly so they are not moving around my wrists, it is just the space in the fingers which causes me problems.
In terms of quality, these gloves are well made and stitched strongly together. They grip very well when using tools which is what they are designed to do and for £2.48 they are good value for money, especially if you have larger hands than I have.
I continue to use these when using tools in my garden and also when scooping up weeds or clumps of grass etc as these are ideal for those jobs and protect my fingers from nettles and thorns, but I shall have to find some smaller gloves for the more intricate jobs in my garden.
Please note the actual gloves shown here in the photo are not exactly the same as the extra grip ladies gardening gloves I recently purchased from my local B & Q store and the photograph of the gloves I purchased can be found on the B&Q website. They are all pink in colour with knitted cuffs, unfortunately Dooyoo isn't allowing me to post the link here for some reason.
Summary: A bargain priced pair of quality gloves, ideal for larger hands.
