      One part of our garden had lawn still on it but the dog kept digging holes in it plus when he went to the toilet on the grass it was a pain trying to clean it up afterwards so we decided to get rid of the grass altogether and cover it over with something else. We already had two areas that were covered with slabs to make patio areas so wanted something different in this part. We put a fence around the out side with a gate to keep the dog out and then went to B & Q to see what we could find to cover the area to make it look nice.

      == The Product ==

      The product we decided to buy was Naturally Rounded Decorative Stone. It comes in a bag which holds 25 kg of stones and they are a mixture of browns, greys and black stones. The bags cost £3.98 each.

      == Our Experience ==

      We bought ten bags of this stone at first. The area we were wanting to cover was about 11 feet by 6 feet. We had bought some paving slabs to go up the middle bit so we didn't need to cover the whole area. The bags are really heavy to lift unless you are muscly so you need to be careful lifting them. Once they are in place you can cut a slit in the bag and just tip it out over the floor. We used a sheet of black fabric underneath which keeps the weeds from growing through from underneath and tipped the stones onto this and then used a garden rake he wrong way up to spread them about over the ground.

      The ten bags covered the area nicely, we didn't need it to be too deep, just enough to cover over the black fabric. The stones look really decorative especially if it has rained a bit and they go all shiny and a deeper colour but even in the sunshine they look nice and much better than having the horrible lawn.

      == Summary ==

      I would really recommend these stones if you want a cheaper answer to ground cover and something that need little maintenance. We find we still get a few weeds growing in it which is probably from where birds are dropping seeds on to it but they are not deep rooted as they cant go under the black fabric so they are easy to pull out. We usually buy a couple of new bags each year to top up the stones and give them a fresh look.
