When I was growing up we always had lots of wildlife in our garden which was lovely and when I moved into my own home I wanted to have the same, one way to do this was obviously encourage birds into the garden and despite having 2 cats I always feed the birds and have several nesting boxes. We never seem to have problems with the cats going after them and always put the boxes where they cant reach them.
My mum saw this bird box at a charity sale at the end of last year and as it was brand new with the wrapper and going for a ridiculously small price she bought it for me.
The Gardman Wooden Bird Box comes with very little packaging just a card wrapper around it. This informs the customer that the bird box is for wild birds including sparrows, wagtails, finches and blue tits.
The box is made from wood and has a little slanted roof, this is made from what looks like a piece of ridged decking, it gives the roof a different texture to the rest of the box and looks quite effective. The wood is quite rough and just stapled together but it feels pretty sturdy and the rough wood gives it a natural look.
The bottom of the box is loosely attached making it easy to remove for cleaning. To do this you just need to undo the screws that hold it in place. The size of the box is approximately 23 x 13 x 12cm's and the little entrance hole measures 32mm making it ideal for smaller birds.
To fix the bird box to a wall or fence is easy, all you need is a small screw and there is a little notch cut out of the back of the box where the screw head slots into.
We have our Gardman bird box attached to the fence behind some tall bushes, its a lovely little secure area that doesn't get the full force of the sun in the summer and is sheltered from any harsh weather. We put it up at the beginning of the year and now have blue tits taking a great interest in it which I am really pleased about.
If you like to have bird boxes in your garden then I would certainly recommend the Gardman Wooden Bird Box, its nice and sturdy and once attached to the wall or fence it feels nice and secure.
As I mentioned my mum bought mine but they are available from various garden centres and online stores such as Amazon, prices range from approximately £6.00 to £8.00 which I think is reasonable and is worth it to see the wild birds in the garden.
