Advantages: Protects plants from frost, very easy to use

Disadvantages: None

My fiancé bought me a blueberry plant after I cooked him some American Buttermilk Pancakes with Blueberry Syrup, in the hope that we could have the pancakes all the time if we had a readily available source of blueberries! We've had the plant for about 2 years now and not had a single bloody berry from it. I've since read that it can take quite a while for them to become established plants before they will yield any berries, so we'll have to stick to the imported ones from Tesco for now.

The plant doesn't like cold weather and as it's in quite a big heavy pot, it's inconvenient to bring it indoors during the winter. So I bought these Fleece Jackets to protect it from the harsh cold weather, particularly frost. With the weather being so changeable in Britain it's hard to say when the last risk of frost has well and truly passed.

They are made from high quality 30g polypropylene and they are rectangular shaped with a drawstring at one end. You just slip them over the plant and the pot and pull the drawstring tight. The material allows light, air and moisture to filter through so the plants don't suffocate.

So far the plants I've used the Fleece Jackets on have all survived, even when it snowed really heavily this year, so they definitely work.

They're available in two sizes:
* Small 80cm x 60cm (supplied in a pack of 4)
* Medium 1.0m x 80cm (supplied in a pack of 3)

I bought the medium ones just to be on the safe side as the pot is quite big and I'm hoping the plant will grow bigger! However, the bags are MASSIVE so I could have done with just a small one. But my fiancé's mum bought some too and she cleverly cut the medium bags in half and created two smaller bags, so they're quite adaptable if you're the resourceful type.

I hope our blueberry plant appreciates my efforts to keep it warm and comfortable and repays me by giving us a few berries this year!

Costs £6.45 per pack from www.harrodhorticultural.com

Summary: Keeps 'em snug and warm
