It works but is dangerous to small birds, they can get caught in the wires.

I have this company's suet feeder, which I love and am very happy with. I do not mind feeding the squirrels and buy them corn. However, I really would prefer that the squirrels be happy with the feed left for them and anything dropped by the birds. However, I really do not want the furry tailed critters eating the more expensive bird food. They can empty a feeder in no time. I know feel that I know this company, the construction looked good. I bought it at a reasonable enough price, took it home. I filled it with seed and hung it up. Of course, it was mere minutes before the nosy squirrels were checking this out and they were unable to get to the seed, except a bit they managed to shake out. But for the most part they got nothing. I was thinking "success." Until the little gray bird get caught in it. Luckily I was right there and we managed to free the very frightened little bird. I am nit sure what it was, maybe a chickadee? But there were birds in the feeder and a car back fired. The birds rushed out and this little one had his head caught under a wire. I think in the fright that he got caught up inside where he likely should not have been. My conclusion was that it as not safe to leave out with so many smaller birds about. I don't know as there is a way to prevent this or not, maybe of the wires were closer together? Larger birds would not be able to get themselves in between the wires of the cage portion like this one got into. But smaller birds I can see this happening again. I do not wish to come home and find a dead bird in the feeder. I think I would prefer feeding the squirrels.
