I love gardening and find it very therapeutic to just get out there with my old clothes and wellies on and I am out there for hours cutting, pruning and digging. I have had a lot of my gardening tools for many years and have found that buying good quality tools is well worth it as they can withstand a lot of use without breaking or wearing out.
I bought this Draper stainless steel border fork from a local garden centre when we moved house which was over ten years ago but I can't remember exactly how much I paid for it. However it wouldn't have been anywhere near the recommended retail price which is now around £51.77 as I wouldn't pay that for a tool, or be able to afford that. You can get these online for around £18 from Amazon and other online sites and I am sure that there are offers on at garden centres and DIY stores.
This is a border fork and it is quite a bit smaller than a standard fork, and I find it the perfect size for me as I am not very big or strong and I think this would be suitable for a lot of women. It measures 95cm long by15cm and it weighs 998g so it isn't too heavy to use even if I am using it for a long time. Although it is a border fork I do use it for a lot of general digging and as it is made from stainless steel it does feel very sturdy and tough. Obviously as you are digging you do hit rocks or stones but the prongs on this fork stay rigid and straight unlike cheaper forks when they will bend out of shape which affects their accuracy and use.
The shaft has a soft plastic coating which can withstand being knocked or bumped and there is a Y shaped handle which is comfortable to hold and the hole is plenty big enough for the biggest of hands. The handle is polypropylene which is a synthetic resin and is quite soft so even if you don't wear gloves when you are gardening it isn't hard or rough and I have never got any blisters even if I am using the fork for a long time.
I have used this border fork to dig my whole garden throughout the years, from digging compost into my vegetable patch to digging over the borders for new plants and although it is obvious that it has been used it is still in very good condition and has no signs of damage.
I do highly recommend especially to the lady gardeners as it is much lighter than a regular fork but it still does a great job of digging over your garden.
