      Very helpful

An excellent quality, comfortable and durable set of shears

This set of 'Razorsharp' 9" hand held shears is manufactured by Spear & Jackson, a reputable company based in Sheffield. Having owned these shears for the past three years, I can confirm their quality and performance.

They cope incredibly well with a wide variety of cutting tasks in the garden, such as trimming the long grass on the edge of the lawn that is missed by the mower, without the hassle of charging up our cordless strimmer. I also find them invaluable for cutting shrubs, trees and hedges with the 'razorsharp' title proving to be an accurate description of the blade's cutting abilities. The carbon steel blades can cope with fairly thick twigs and branches and the metal dial at the top of the handle helps to absorb the impact of cutting through thicker foliage.

I particularly like the weight of these shears as they are light enough to hold for long periods whilst feeling sturdy enough to tackle most tasks without fear of damage. I also find the rubberised coating on the handles make these easy to hold without slipping and reduces the likelihood of blisters, without the need for gloves.

The shears come complete with the reassurance of a ten year guarantee, although the packaging doesn't offer any specific details about the process of claiming under this guarantee, if necessary. The only information offered is that the guarantee is subject to normal wear and tear and 'reasonable care and maintenance.'

I'm not entirely sure that my treatment of this tool amounts to anything but neglect. I rather shamefully place them straight back into the shed after use without so much as wiping them down. Fortunately, these shears appear to be pretty robust and resilient and have survived my lack of care with no evidence of rusting or reduction in performance. The only issue I've ever experienced has been the blades sticking in the closed position following several months of storage. A simple blast with WD40 spray quickly solved this problem and the shears were soon performing as effectively as ever.

These shears are widely available from stockists of gardening equipment, with the best price currently appearing to be Amazon where this set can be picked up for less than £20. At that price I am happy to recommend these shears as a versatile and excellent quality garden tool.
