Tesco Hiball Glasses
by Whizz11
When we first moved into our house, nearly 7 years ago now we bought some cheap drinking glasses from Habitat which actually lasted us really well. The last one broke about Christmas time and so we needed to get some more so my husband found these ridiculously cheap glasses in the Tesco homeware section. A pack of 4 glasses cost just ... £3.75 so he got two packs.
The glasses definitely look a lot more expensive than their £0.94 price tag and we are enjoying using them in our house. The glasses are in a hiball shape, hence the name, meaning they are slightly bubble shaped in the middle and then are thinner at the top and the bottom. The top of the glass is nice to drink out of because it has a slightly thicker rim to it so you are not scraping your mouth like on some other glasses that have a wafer thin top to them. The opening at the top is just big enough when you take a drink to fit your mouth in as the other side touches the bridge of my nose, but big enough to drink out of so no problem.
The bottom of the glass is almost an inch thick and is made of see through glass so these glasses are very sturdy on their bottoms and stand up well. This bottom part though makes the glasses quite heavy, a bit too heavy if I'm honest so this is not a glass that we give to our kids just yet as they find them quite difficult to hold on to.
The glasses have a 500ml capacity and I find this is quite big and definitely enough for a glass of water during the day or with dinner in the evening. We use these glasses throughout the day because I think they can be used for everyday use as well as looking nice enough to put on a dinner table to serve guests with as well. The shape gives them a bit of a cool, novel look, different from just a regular glass.
The glasses are dishwasher safe. I always put mine in there and have had no problems with any scratches or breakages. In fact, I think the dishwasher gives them a nice sparkle and they always come out looking as good as new.
A perfect glass at a great price. Read the complete review |

Tesco Hiball Glasses

Tesco high ball glasses
When moving house and starting with nothing i decided to put in quite a large order at tesco, www.tesco.com. the products are also available at the larger tesco stores but given that delivery was free to my very close local tesco store i decided to save myself the harassment of fighting my way through ... the shop.
The glasses came in a pack of 4, neatly packaged in cardboard. Once I got them out I gave them the usual wash and then started to use them immediately.
They are the typical high ball style, being slightly wider and rounder towards the bottom and narrower towards the top. They are 14.5 cm tall which is a good height and with the 500 ml capacity they certainly hold enough liquid for a drink. At their widest they are about 6.5 cm so nice and comfortable to hold. I don't like glasses which feel too heavy and thick but these feel and look quite chunky without being overly heavy or cumbersome. The rim of the glasses are comfortable to drink from being neither too thick o r too thin. This means that they don't hurt my mouth when I have a drink because I have had glasses in the past which are way too thin at the rim and almost sharp.
The glasses are dishwasher safe but as with most glasses if not all, they are not oven or microwave safe.
The pack of 4 glasses cost the princely sum of £3.25 so they certainly won't break the bank, and its not a major travesty if one breaks.
VERDICT...
These glasses are definitely everyday glasses especially since they aren't expensive and can take a lot of wear and tear. The usual care has to be taken when washing them but they do wash successfully in the dishwasher.
As well as using them on a daily basis I also use them when I have people round and find they are a good size for adults and children to use. We can get a good spirit and mixer drink with ice in these and for children they hold a good quantity of juice and are chunky enough so that I don't worry about the glasses smashing in their hands!
Before the price and quality I would definitely recommend these. Given that they are lasting well with only one breakage so far ( my fault) I think I will buy a couple more packs of these so that I always have plenty of matching glasses.
Thanks for reading

LSA Moya Champagne Flute
by cookie9
First let me start this review with a confession. My husband bought six of theses glasses for an engagement gift however when I found out how much he had spent I was pretty shocked as it was more than we had recieved from them as our wedding gift. As a compromise we decided to give two glasses as a gift and keep the remaining four for ... ourselves. I therefore initially wasn't very impressed with these glasses as we already had several standard flutes however I soon changed my mind when I started to use them. ( and that's not the champagne talking!)
The first thing that stands out is the slightly unusual shape as the stem is quite thick, solid and heavy. They also weigh considerably more than your normal flutes which may come as a surprise when you first pick them up. I have to say that I really enjoy drinking from the flutes and the weight adds to the feeling of luxurious indulgence that comes from drinking champagne. The glasses balance well and drinking from them is a joy. They have a very modern contemporary feel to them and if your home is similar then these glasses would be an ideal addition to it. LSA is a well known glassware brand that specialises in hand made modern galssware. The only downside is that they can be a little awkward to clean especially if you have a champagne cocktail. I tend to fill them with some soapy water before cleaning them propoerly in this instance works well.
Of course now for the bad news.....the cost. A box of 6 will be around £60 to £70. I have seen a gift box of two for £24 which would make a lovely gift. ( Take note husband of mine a gift of TWO!) A box of 6 would make a very nice wedding gift to a modern couple. Just kicking myself I didnt see these before making my own wedding list as I would have put them on it.
Overall a lovely gift to get or a treat to yourself but not cheap. Read the complete review |
