Ikea Všnlig Glasses
Advantages: cheap, thick glass
For some reason drinking glasses always get smashed in our house. If I buy a new set then the full set probably only lasts for a fortnight or so, after that you can guarantee that one or more glasses from the set will have been smashed. As a result of this I always just buy cheap drinking glasses, it is expensive enough just buying cheap glasses, as we go through so many!
More often than not I always end up buying some from Ikea. I've recently bought glasses from the Vanlig range. The range consists of three different sizes: 22cl, 33cl and 48cl, all of which are available in clear glass, or slightly blue tinted glass. There is also a 1 litre jug available in the range, but just in the clear version.
The glasses all come in 6 packs, and are the following prices;
22cl - clear £1.99, blue tint £2.69
33cl - clear £2.99, blue tint £3.69
48cl - clear £3.99, blue tint £4.69
1 litre jug - £1.99
I bought a set of each size in clear glass, and the matching jug. I bought these back at the start of December, and so far the breakages only total three, that's good for us!
These drinking glasses seem to be really sturdy, they are made from quite thick substantial glass, and so will probably be ideal for us! A slight drawback to this though is that the glasses are quite heavy, I will happily live with this though if they last longer.
They are quite plain, they taper in towards the bottom, and the botoms of the glasses have ridges all the way around. This is kind of like somewhere to grip if the glass is wet, to stop it slipping through your hands.
I like having the matching glasses in different sizes, especially for setting the table with them. I think that these are a staple item in Ikea, so even when we've smashed most of ours, I can replace them with the same, to match my remaining ones.
They are dishwasher safe, and they are stackable which saves space in your kitchen cupboards when storing them.
All in all I'm pleased with these, and I will probably be off to buy some more fairly soon!
