Titleist HP Tour
by JJJJ
Titleist's range of golf balls are arguably the best in the business - their ProV1 model sits atop the golfing tree, and is used by the majority of the tour pros. Some of Titleist's older ball models are similarly respectable, and their HP Tour variety are well worth a look.
As they're not part of Titleist's newest ball ... range, the HP Tour can be fairly difficult to get hold of - that said, a quick search on eBay will show that you can pick up twenty 'pearl' grade (used but in great condition) balls for £9.95, representing very good value for money. Utilising a solid core, HP Tour balls have an especially thin cover - but how do they perform?
Distance, Spin, & Feel
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Distance wise, the HP Tour travels a long way from the driver, matching Titleist's newer Solo ball, and the Maxfli revolution which I also sometimes use. The ball's trajectory is fairly high, but it also manages to roll a long way, which is especially impressive.
From the putter, the ball feels nice and soft, offering a great deal of touch. Spin levels are good too, and I frequently find that the ball 'checks' on the green from chip shots, and has the potential to spin from 150 yards in. The ball is very durable - it doesn't cut up or scuff easily, meaning that you'll be able to use for many consecutive round.
Final Word

Overall, the Titleist HP Tour is a very impressive golf ball - it combines great feel with a fair bit of spin and a lot of distance. It's a real shame that Titleist don't male the ball anymore, as it's a great little performer. Read the complete review |

Titleist HP Tour

Intro
------
It's been a while since i did a review on golf so i thought i would return back to my natural habitat! I will once again stress how golfing equipment will not turn a beginner into a pro, or vice versa, so don't go out and buy the best stuff and then expect to be tiger woods over night. However, if you are a good ... golfer, then great equipment will make you a better than good golfer - it will improve your game. Golf balls are a key part of this, and playing with the right ones, that suit both your game and your wallet, is something which must be considered when heading out onto the course.
The HP Tour
---------------
Length - Not an area where this ball really excells in my opinion. Yes it travels well, and better than a cheaper ball, such as a top flite, but it certainly won't add yards and yards to your game. In this respect it is similar to a Srixon Soft Feel, which is not surprising considering they have similar technology within them, being soft feel.
Feel and Spin - Again, being like the Srixon, this is an area where this ball excells. On the putting surface it really feels nice to strike, you feel that you have good control over the line and length of your putts, which is obviously important. Also, when applying spin to the ball, you will struggle to get better than this ball. It really allows you to apply it, particularly back spin, in my experience, and if you pitch the ball past the flag expect to see it roll back down towards the hole pretty sharpish - a nice experience for any golfer, and one that will earn you shots.
Durability - I have played with these for a while and they are still in good nick. I always think that if you buy from a reputable make like Titleist, then you really should not have a problem.
Pricewise
------------
I think these balls are retailing at about £2 a ball nowadays. This is quite good given the quality of them, and well worth the price if you can find a bargain.
Summary
-----------
A good all rounder - well worth a buy and a try. Read the complete review |

Titleist Pro V1x
by totallyextreme
Intro
------
I cannot believe that i have reviewed a number of golf balls without taking on a review for the Titleist Pro V1. It is quite simply, well renowned to be the best ball on the market and is used by a whole host of the pros. Many reading this will probably not differentiate between a normal ball and a Pro V, declaring ... that at the end of the day, they must all be the same, but this is far from the truth. The ball you play with, while it won't make a fantastic player bad or vice versa, certainly adds an edge to the game, and if you are unconcerned with price, in my opinion these are the ones that you want to be using. There are a great number of close alternatives, but that Titleist feel and length really gives this ball the edge.
The flight
------------
Firstly, i have always opened these reviews by saying how disappointing the ball is that it does not add length to any of your drives. Well, i have found the answer. Hit properly and true, this will probably add about 10 yards onto your drive, compared to a normal quality ball. That can make the difference between getting over a hazard, or making a short iron club approach, so this certainly is something which should not be overlooked.
The feel and spin
----------------------
Again, fantastic. You really feel the ball when you strike it, making a beautiful noise, always a sign of a good ball. The increased feel gives you greater confidence particularly when you are around the green and accuracy is of the highest importance. The spin produced by the Pro V is also unrivalled. No other ball will allow you such a degree of change in pitch on the green, in my opinion, so this really is the ball to improve both your short game and your long.
Durability
-----------
Quite obviously, these are well made. You get the impression that Titleist have spent hours handcrafting each ball; perfecting it in every single way. I can guarantee you that your Pro V1 will last you longer than you can last it. In other words, you will put it in the drink or in some horrific long rough long before it runs out on you!
Price
------
The one downside of this ball. It's ridiculously expensive. Every time you lose one you have effectively chucked £3 into the lake. Do this 3 times over a 36 hole competition and you have just added a tenner on to the price of your round. Slightly ridiculous, but a risk worth taking if you are a good player.
Summary
------------
Absolutely fantastic golf ball and will improve your game. Make sure you have the bank balance to see it off though! Read the complete review |
