Launched way back in 1998, the X12 irons are the perfect set for someone who has got over the initial excitement of starting in golf and wants to improve. I bought mine refurbished and although I don't use them that frequently, they are always handy to have for practise and for working out any bad habits I may have developed. The key selling point on these irons was the addition of a multi layered design on the reverse of each club. This would affect the sound and the feel of the club. The larger head and construction allows for a greater amount of forgiveness for shots which do not come off the center of the club. Vital for someone who has yet to hit their full potential. The sole of the iron is a lot narrower tahn your standard Calloway club. Now while this may look narrower and a little sleeker, it has the technical advantage of reducing drag and limiting the amount of the club that comes into contact with the ground. Therefore less energy is lost allowing for more to be transferred to your shot. These clubs also include Calloways patented S2H2 concept. This means that the hosel, the area of the shaft which is affixed to the head is shortened and hollowed, allowing for weight to be focussed in the area of the club it is needed most, the head. Now you maybe concerned taht this hollowing out will cause a weakening of the club, but this is counteracted by the TruBore design which allows the shaft to continue through the head of the club. The result of this is that the club feels more solid and much more stable, allowing the player to develop confidence in his swing. They are consistent is probably the best compliment I can pay these clubs. Different parts of the club, when struck, will still produce the smae shots. Now this will help you develop your game, alleviating some of the many frustrations that will occur from using clubs for a higher skill set. A full set of Irons will cost you about £122.00 which is an investment, but one taht will repay for the golfer willing to dedicate time and patience to working on his game. I would recomend them as a perfect set for those becoming serious about the game. They will deliver shots that ensure you can drive straight and long while hitting the ball harder. But they are not the last set of clubs you will own, just the ones they help you on your way.
