Advantages: Good value, cheapest golf glove around
Disadvantages: Nothing special
My family love golf and more over the last year my boyfriend has taken it up too. I was starting to get bored with his constant trips to the driving range to practise the things he picked up in his lessons, so I decided to start tagging along. I've not played much golf since I was about 16 and forgot how much my hand used to hurt. So after the first visit to the driving range I decided to invest in a golf glove.
The regular way to wear a golf glove for a right hander like myself would be on the left hand which is the lead hand when hitting with a club. It helps to grip the glove without putting too much strain on your hand and reduces the likelihood of getting a blister. Many golfers don't wear a glove and some actually wear one on both hands; it is very much down to individual preference.
The glove that I decided on was a Dunlop glove; a white one with a pink and black trim which gives it the usual Dunlop retro sporty look whilst remaining quite feminine. This particular glove is the 'all weather' glove which means it is ideal in rain, snow or hot weather - ideal, as keen golfers will play in any weather! The glove is nice and snug around my hand which is how it should fit - it is important to select the right size because if it is too tight it will restrict hand movement and if it is too loose you won't have enough grip on the club. There is an adjustable Velcro fastener across the top which I find useful for adjusting it to make sure it fits my hand comfortably. The strap displays the Dunlop logo, again in pink and black. The glove has ventilation holes along each of the fingers which is good in theory but I don't feel it adds much as when I remove the glove my hand is sweating as you would expect after hitting golf balls. There is also elasticised material over the knuckles which allows the hand to move freely and grip the club properly. The palms are covered in a webbed print for extra grip.
The glove is from the ladies Dunlop golf range and was purchased from Sports Direct. It was reduced from £9.99 to £4.99 which I was happy to pay for a first glove. My partner's is much more expensive and from what I can see it doesn't do much more. I actually noticed it in Sports Direct for only £2 last time I was in there! Amazon are also selling it for £2 at the moment. The all weather golf glove from Dunlop is available for both men and women with a variety of sizes for both sexes.
Dunlop is one of the cheaper brands in golf equipment so I thought this was excellent value and I would recommend it, even though it is fairly ordinary. Strangely, even though I know I bought a 'ladies small' glove, the sticker inside the glove says 'Mens Reg'. There is no chance this glove would fit a guy with regular sized hands! All in all, a good value standard glove, especially for a beginner. 4 out of 5 stars - it is great for the price but loses the extra star because it isn't quite special enough.
