I have done quite a few golf reviews in recent times here on Dooyoo. The fact is that I am a big golf fan and have been playing for many years. In that time I have used various balls, clubs and other bits and pieces of kit. One thing that often gets over looked though is the humble golf tee. This is a very simple piece of equipment but it is one that you use pretty much 18 times on a round of golf. So obviously it is an important piece of kit. I have used a few fancy golf tees but I always return to these tees, the simple Gamola plastic golf tee. These are the kind of tees that you see pretty much everywhere you play golf. They are as simple as you can get when it comes to golf tees, so what are they really like?
Well first of all they are cheap. You can pick up a bag of these for around £1. So they are certainly not something that is going to break the bank. The nature of golf means that you will lose a few golf tees through out the course of an average round, but as these are so cheap it really does not matter. I have a friend who plays with wooden golf tees, I have never really understood this as they tend to break on a regular basis, plus they cost more. The good thing about plastic golf tees is that they pretty much never break. In fact in all the years of playing I don't think I have ever snapped one, that said I have occasionally seen broken ones discarded on the golf course, so obviously they do occasionally snap.
These tees come in two different sizes. You can have the shorter ones which I tend to use for iron shots of the tee or you can have the longer tees which I used when I'm hitting driver or maybe 3 wood. The tees come on a range of different colours, I always tend to have my favourite tees that I prefer, I tend to avoid the white ones and favour the red ones, obviously this makes no difference to my shot but it's just personal preference. These are sharp enough that they easily stick into the ground, but they are not so sharp that they are going to stab you if you leave a few in your pocket.
The little cup that you rest your ball on is pretty reliable and it's not usually a problem getting your ball to rest on top. Occasionally you do get one that is out of shape and then it can be an issue to get your ball on top, most of the time I just throw these away and use another one. Overall these tees really are pretty good. They might be a little bit basic for some people, golf snobs and the like may want to invest in fancy wooden tees or other tees that are available, but if you are happy with something simple and effective then you can't go wrong with these tees. For all round value they really can not be beaten, even if you lose lots of these, at this super cheap price you can simply buy a few more. So if you like things plain and simple then you should be buying the Gamola plastic golf tees.
