As described in recent reviews, last year I completely replaced both my golf bag and clubs and tried to dedicate more time to my golf game.
You very rarely see a golf pro ever go without the glove - a lightweight leather accessory that gives significantly more grip so that you don't feel the need to choke the club. This is important as gripping the club too tightly is one of the major pitfalls of the amateur golfer. Most pros will tell you a glove is essential in order to give you the grip needed as a good foundation to creating a solid, dependable and repeatable swing. The hard and fast rule is that you wear the glove on your 'opposite hand' as it were - if you are right-handed you wear the glove on your left hand and vice-versa. There are, however, exceptions to this rule (PGA legend Fred Couples never wears a glove and has one of the best swings ever seen on the PGA tour and pro Tommy Gainey wears two gloves - go figure!)
Whilst I was searching for some accessories I came across the Srixon all-weather glove and it instantly caught my eye as I live in Scotland and we play golf in all sorts of weather here - the sun can be splitting the sky in October and it can be raining in July so I thought I would give it a go. It looked good (a nice mix of white and black) It also was on offer (£7.99 for one or 3 for 2) so I picked up three and went on my way.
I instantly warmed to the glove - it gives very good grip in the dry weather but also doesn't smother the skin - the material is very breathable and I felt that my left hand was never covered in sweat at any point whilst wearing glove, no matter how high the temperature. I find the glove comes into its own, grip-wise, when hitting my tee-shot and it gave me confidence on the tee - which as any golfer will tell you is half the battle.
The one negative would be I didn't find the glove as dependable in the wet weather. In light drizzle and moderate rain, yes the glove was fine and maintained an excellent grip in these conditions. However, in the severe conditions - like very heavy rain - the glove does lose some of its grip. This is partly down to wet grips on the clubs too - so it's not entirely the gloves fault (it's so important to ensure you always have an excellent umbrella and dry towel to keeps your clubs dry!) However, even with this equipment, a pair of 'winter gloves' is definitely necessary to combat these conditions and keep a good grip. A winter glove will be thicker and give a much stronger grip to cope with the conditions. If you can't be bothered to invest in a pair of winter gloves to use during severe conditions - either keep your glove dry in your pocket or bag in between shots or keep two or three in your bag so that you can alternate during the round every 6 holes or so in order to keep them dry.
Overall, this is a very, very good glove that gives excellent grip, even in mild to moderate rain. It looks good, is reasonably priced (3 for £14 and some of the bigger brands are more expensive and don't necessarily give better grip) I would highly recommend and I rate it with 4 stars from 5.
