OK first a little background on my golfing habits. I have been playing golf for about ten years. I've never had lesson, I don't take it to seriously and yet I would rate myself as an above average player. The problem I have always had is with length. I have one of the worst swings you will ever see, this is not a problem when I'm playing the shorter shots, as my swings works pretty well, however when it somes to hitting the ball hard, I just don't have teh technique.
A professional golfer can spank a ball 300 yards in his sleep. Most players can drive a ball 250 yards without to many problems. However I've never really been able to hit past 200 yards on a regular basis, which puts me at a big disadvantage. THis is partly because instead of using a driver I always use my trusty 3 wood. I no I can hit it straight nearly every time.
I have tried drivers in the past. About five years ago I bought a Slazenger driver for about £40. Not only could I never hit a straight shot with it, it only gave me about 10 extra yards. So I never used it.
Recently though I got myself one of these. A TaylorMade Burner. Now these clubs are top of the range, there are better ones, but if your looking for one fo the best drivers around without paying insane money, this is the club your looking for.
So on Friday as the weather picked up, I went for my first game of golf of the year. if I had to sum up in one word my round it would be.... Long!! Simply put, this driver added a good 50 yards to my game. I thrashed my friend who I was playing with, I equalled my course record and I hit a golf baller further than I ever thought possible.
I hit 14 shots with my driver, 90% went straight down the middle. They all went around 250 yards and one even almost made it to 300 (admitedly it was down wind and down hill). I was able to reach the greens with my second shot on holes where thats not always possible. I birdied the par 5. Even though it was my first game of the year, and my all round hame was not that good, the extra length gave me a huge advantage!
This dirver is amazing. It feels so good in your hands, the forgiveness is amazing, there was one shot where i hit the ground before my ball and it still went 220 yds down the middle! You can tap your ball and it flies off the club. There is a great crisp sound as you strike the ball, it just feels so good.
This driver cost me just over £120 and I got it on sale as it was last years model. They were closer to £200. So this is not a cheap golf club. But if I had known just how good this was I would have bought one years ago!
You get a few option when buying the club. You can have 9.5 or 10.5 degrees of loft. You can have stiff or flex shafts. You can get different grips. When it says it TaylorMade, it really is. Whatever feels best for you is what you can get. You also get a nice head cover with your driver to keep it nice and warm and safe.
This driver is all round wonderful stuff. Its showed me that my technique is not as bad as I thought, and while I will never out drive Tiger Woods, at least I can now hold my own with people I play with.
TaylorMade are one of the best makes of golf club out there and when you use a club like this you can really see why. This club is going to make my scores plummet, its going to hit the ball longer and straighter than I ever dreamed, and its going to take me up a level in the golfing world. So I would have to say this is a club that is worth every penny!
